I enjoyed this book, though the beginning was a bit slow. I already knew the ending of the court case considering that we'd watched (part of) the movie in an English class when I was younger, but it was still an intriguing aspect of the book.

While, of course, we all wanted the court case to go the other way, I think the doomed from the start case where they couldn't overcome it in the end aspect was very good. It speaks to Atticus Finch's character that he did his best despite the odds. It also illustrated the social issues at the time very well.

I also liked the ending with Boo (Arthur) Radley quite a bit. I think it really spoke to Scout's new perspective about how to think about and treat people developed in the book.

I fully understand why this book is considered to be so important. It’s incredible, with a lot of meaning and heart in every word. Some parts move so quickly that you can’t put it down, and some go slowly not because they’re boring but because it’s the kind of story you want to savor. I cannot recommend it enough.

i usually wouldn’t find myself rating a book i read for school so high, but i think this story deserves it.

there’s so many layers to this story and so much to unpack, so i’ll just say that i genuinely enjoyed it. i know it’s controversial, but i really did like it. i laughed and cried and i think it was very reflective in many ways. the character development was incredible, but also i guess that’s the point of the story. the way scout reflects on her story at the end from a different perspective gave me a very strong sense of completeness. i’m sad after reading this, but also i feel ready to go into my english class tomorrow and reflect on it.

definitely a reread ✅

read this for english class and loved the writing style after i got used to it (30ish pages). the topics explored are hard to get through and the ethics of the white author’s usage of racial slurs throughout the book are not my place to speak on, but something to be aware of. overall, i found the story to be deeply moving and i think it’s worth your time!

I didn't really enjoy the first third of the book as most of the novel contains of dialogue and that's just something I don't like if it's too much.

I also skipped an entire chapter about the dog, that's was so unnecessary and unrelevant and actually makes me angry that the author put that in the book.

All those things aside, the further I got into it the more I started enjoying the book.

Attickus finch is such an amazing character, I wish I knew him in real life and I also really love jem and scout.

I think the message it's trying to tell is important as well and I feel like if I reread this book I would enjoy it more than the first time! But I'll always skip the chapter about the dog
