Honestly loved this book so much I can’t believe I haven’t read it sooner. Obviously don’t love all of the language in it but man… what a great story.
was absolutely gutted when Tom was found guilty and then died

I really enjoyed this! I’ve watched the movie a few times, but never read the book. It’s honestly pretty similar. I really enjoyed scout as a narrator. This is obviously a serious book that handles some serious topics, but it feels cozy. If you haven’t read this yet I do recommend it. It’s an easy read as well for a classic.

This is a classic for a reason! The characters took me back to childhood while the plot around the trial brought up so many emotions for humanity and a desire for justice and truth.

No mockingbird is killed in this book.
No attempt at any mockingbird's life is made in this book.
No mockingbird appears in this book.

I can see the importance of this book for time period it was published, but I can also certainly see the ideas and the language (damn, so many slurs) that don't work in our time. The book was published in the '60s, so I am sure that at this point there are tons of discussions about its themes. I don't think I would be able to do it even if I tried.
However, I would like to mention some parts that I liked. I am really impressed with how Lee captured the voice of a child, it felt pretty real. The last three chapters of the book were probably my favorite, they worked for me on an emotional level, but also it was nice to see how everything came together in the end.
Arthur, my beloved

To Kill a Mockingbird surprised me with how good it was.  To be honest, going in I thought I would hate it.  I found the beginning plot to be rather disjointed.  Most of the character were quite good, but some of them lacked depth.  Honestly, this is a rather average book.
