This didn’t quite reach the heights of Salt Magic Skin Magic for me; however, I still super enjoyed it and will for sure re-read it. Loved the middle aged protagonists, loved them being TIRED yet cautiously hopeful about love. I want to give Fenn a hug! (And I really want some fan art of Morgrim in the Angelina Jolie Oscar stance, with the thigh high red boots peeking out from his robes—talk about a LEWK.)

This book was a delight to read. It hooked me immediately, the romance was slow and tender but still spicy and as in all of my favorite books, the main character is an absolute cinnamon roll. Fenn is so kind hearted but has lived a difficult life that has made him rough around the edges. As soon as he finds a soft place to land his kindness and love spreads to those around him and he makes his world better in every way. Fenn is such a good character and the language used in the book is delightfully unique.

What can I say: Cat Sebastian recommends it, I read it. The protagonists were endearingly grouchy, the arcs were sweet, it was silly and smutty, I laughed and felt genuinely moved by the characters, even if the style and particular rendition of fantasy worldbuilding aren’t what I’m most drawn to.

What a lovely and unique book. This one pushed all the right buttons for me. The pacing was good, both in terms of the romance and the plot. There was just the right amount of tension and miscommunication between the two MCs. Both were likeable, interesting, mature and sympathetic. Finally, the world building was some of the most engaging I’ve read in recent years, and not because of the plot (though it was compelling enough), but because the author was able to tap into a real sense of otherness. The fantasy setting was distinctive and a little off-kilter, and the magic, strange, especially in the way it was expressed in each of the MCs. I read a lot, and so for a book to transport me so completely was a real gift.

3.5 stars for the book
5 stars for the audio.

Loved the beginning but felt like the second half was slow then the epilogue was rushed.

The world buiding is great.
I feel like we needed more from the romance aspect especially since everything happened in a matter of days.

The steam was .... steaming lol

Cute. Sweet. Smutty. A nice comfortable read. We need more of those for older MCs.

That was lovely! I loved the idea of the worple horses! There’s not a lot of world building but it’s enough to carry the story.

What a delightful surprise! The audiobook is very good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was sceptical going in because I did not enjoy this author's previous book (Salt Magic, Skin Magic) but this one had a unique charm that I quite enjoyed. I liked how this book is quite different from the MANY formulaic books out there. This one stands out on its own in its originality and story telling. I was engaged throughout and found the plot interesting. The setting is immersive (though not quite as cinematic as I would have liked) and the MCs are nicely flawed. A fun read and a nice surprise. Pick this one up if you are looking for something different and interesting ... and are somewhat partial to magic and horses ... and books that make you to believe in happy endings.
