The Million Year Picnic and Other Stories collects 27 stories illustrated by Will Elder, sometimes with an assist by John Severin.

My journey through the Fantagraphics EC library has brought me to Will Elder once again. I wasn't crazy about the last Will Elder book and I wasn't crazy about this one either. First off, the parodies don't really land well if you haven't read the source material. Secondly, Elder's style doesn't really get me going either.

Still, I couldn't help but enjoy myself. Some of the horror and science fiction tales are all times. Counter Clockwise, Right on the Button, The Strange Couple, and For us the Living were some standouts. I even enjoyed some of the humor stories, like Night Before Christmas, Punch Lines, and Sunday at the Beach. My favorite story of the collection by far was Two For the Show, a grim tale about a guy trying to get away with murder who, of course, does not get away with murder.

The Million Year Picnic and Other Stories wasn't my favorite EC collection but it was still enjoyable for the most part. 3 out of 5 stars.
