This is yet another great Ann Patchett story. I would have given it five stars for its lovely scenes and strong characters, but I got kind of lost with the time jumping back and forth.

sad
It was good but it made me sad in the worst type of way not even a noble sadness like a dank dreaded basement sadness!! But still I like the writing and just the tragedy but not tragedy of it all. Smh mommy issues and daddy issues out the wazoo… everybody get to therapy STAT
I enjoyed listening to Tom Hanks read this audio book. It’s a thinker for sure. It was engrossing and haunting. Are any of the characters fully likable? No. We are given too much information to let anyone off scott-free. I was stunned by the final betrayal by Elna, and that will stay with me. Forgiveness is the theme, and I’m not sure I could or would want to in these situations. 4 stars because it was real, raw, captivating and very well written.
