This is my first real introduction to Stephen King works. Don’t judge me, I wasn’t used to reading up until a couple of years ago. I needed time before getting to Mr. King!

I picked this anthology because I wanted to read “The Life of Chuck” before watching the movie. I had no idea it was a a really short story. A delightful, weird, and wholesome short story. I stayed with me for a few weeks and it got me in the mood for continuing the rest of the book.

“If it bleeds” is the titular story, also the longer one. I found it a fascinating novella, not new (I devour sci-fi movies and tv shows) but described in a way that made it feel like something I’ve experienced for the first time. It took me a moment to realize that this is the writing style of Stephen King! Which I like, tbh.

I don’t know why I felt he would be a much harder writer to read, but I did. And now I think I want to go through more of his stories.

I’m pretty sure that I will find lots of books that will feel more like “Rat” and “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”: dark, cinematic, and somehow haunting. All things I enjoy a lot.

Overall, I’m glad this was my first intro to King. I can’t wait to find something else of his to read.

Добірка з чотирьох творів, як сей Кінг завжди любить. Мені сподобалось. От правда. Кожне оповідання сколихнуло емоції, підняло деякі думки, які тепер не так просто відкинути. Трохи сумно спостерігати, як в творах простежується якась… не знаю, смиренність перед смертю. І я не маю на увазі відірвані кінцівки або глобальне зло з Деррі, просто тихе розуміння, що життя не є вічною або навіть обіцяною річчю.

(Ну правда, "Життя Чака" приголомшує. Ось що насправді відбувається, коли помирає близька людина. Світ зсувається з місця. Дивно, що продовжує курсувати транспорт, працюють банки та нетфлікс, хоча зникає така важлива (для тебе) людина і все згасає разом з нею. Тож так, це оповідання буквально показує мені відчуття та емоції і виносить їх назовні у фізичний простір. Ох.)
