A must read for true crime lovers, there’s references to real serial killers. It was a quick read for me since the chapters were short and almost always ended on a cliff hanger. I almost had the mystery solved, but couldn’t completely get the pieces to fit together to solve it before finishing the book.

True story: I have a hard time suspending my disbelief when it comes to murder mysteries and thrillers but the reason I tried (and stayed with) The Good Lie is because I enjoyed Every Last Secret and ultimately, I flew through it. That said, the novel was simply not very good. The writing is filled with the minutia of Dr. Moore's day-to-day. You never get the sense that she is in immediate danger either so there are no real stakes, not even at the end. In addition to her day-to-day, there is a lot of repetition, namely "I can't believe I'm working on the BH killer profile and letting everything slide" and "I should review his case files but I don't have the time." Multiple conversations on "what did I know and why didn't I report it?" Dr. Gwen Moore is a terrible psychiatrist, which is only strengthened by some of her clueless actions.
