Book 57 of 2024: Becoming - Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama recounts the experiences of her life which have made her who she is today, from her childhood in Chicago’s South Side, to her career as a lawyer, to meeting Barack Obama and falling in love, to becoming a mother and then to becoming the First Lady of the United States.

Review:
⭐️5/5

This was an extremely raw and honest autobiography where Michelle Obama really lays her whole life out on the table. I appreciated how candid she was throughout, sharing her personal experiences and views. I had always respected Michelle Obama but this book took her to a whole new level of inspirational in my eyes, the way she fights for what she believes in and stands up for herself and her family is incredible, the lens that she looks at life through is so well balanced too. Truly iconic woman.

This was an excellent book. I listened to the audio version which I highly recommend. It took me a while to finish because my work commute isn’t very long but it was worth it. She has the perfect narration voice. When Obama was elected I was in middle school and had zero interest in politics so this book really shed a new light on things that happened that I was oblivious to. When it got to the section about Sandy Hook it broke my heart all over again hearing it from Michelle’s side, aka the “diplomatic” side.

I always wondered if Michelle would be swayed by people championing her take office and reconsider to run for president in 2020. She spells it out clearly as to why that will never happen. These pages are filled with her heartwarming, protective spirit. Such an intimate read from a beautiful, consistently inspirational woman.
