The entire arc of the series gets a higher rating than each of the individual books alone- which is why I gave this one 5 stars.
I was engaged and finding excuses to read and get to the resolution- to know how it ended. To me, that is a sign of a good series.

This was not the finale I wanted. Somehow it just made no sense a lot of the time like „the spies told me“/„I just somehow know exactly what is happening at all time“ really killed any intrigue in my opinion. Also all the deaths were set up so far ahead that they just did not really evoke any emotion in me .. also kind of a cop out to first make an actual well written point of Billy leaving the island because of all the differences - which made a lot of sense - only to have Arsinoe follow him because she was no longer „useful“ to her home.
Overall the series is a middle ground for me. Easy flowing writing and somehow I got invested, but also full of truly random plot points, constant character 180 motivation changes out of nowhere and a magic system that breaks it‘s own rules according to the plot.

Bref love.
Note : 16,5/20
LOVED this conclusion to the Three Dark Crowns series. This book took all my expectations and threw them out the window and ended in a way I did not foresee. People died, which is something I expected, but it was still heartbreaking to read.
It very much feels like everyone is a victim in this series. Katherine didn’t ask to be pushed down into an abyss. Arsinoe didn’t ask to be an ungifted naturalist. Mirabella didn’t ask to be torn from her sisters and forced to kill them. I honestly didn’t feel outright hatred for any of the characters in this series.
Kendare Blake creates a world that was so magical and foreign to our own, but it also seemed near enough that you could almost imagine that if you searched hard enough you could find Fennbirn, hidden in the mist. This book was a beautiful ending to a great series and I am looking forward to reading more books from this author.

alright... so this is a 4.5 for me. i think it was amazing... with some small issues.
the plot twists in this finale stayed true to the former books. i loved how even though we could predict what would happen in a big picture sort of way, we got so many many twists and turns that kept me hooked.
overall it was an amazing read. my issues are just me being nitpicky this series was great and definitely a read again

Spoiler
my main issue? did mira and kat have to die? did jules have to be queen? i just can't see it. i really do not like jules and especially could not stand emilia and did not think that was a satisfying ending for me. also the whole time arsinoe was against moving back to the mainland. she hated it there. but all of a sudden she's going to go back???? what???? i understand that they would be back and forth but to me it just seemed out of character for her to go back where she was not able to be herself.overall it was an amazing read. my issues are just me being nitpicky this series was great and definitely a read again
(3.5)
I liked this series. I wanted to love this series, but I felt like I still had unanswered questions. I'm still not sure why Arsinoe and Katherine were switched at birth. Why was Daphne all of a sudden no longer there when Arsinoe went back to her? If Mirabella needed to be sacrificed to get rid of the Mist, then why didn't it leave when she died?
Am I missing something??

Wow where do I start.
I really really enjoyed reading this last book as so much is going on from the first chapter which I love. Can’t believe what happened to Mirabella (still not over it) I really thought all 3 sisters would survive till the end tho I’m happy Arsinose did but I NEED to know if she finds Billy and what happens next.
Emilia annoyed me in this book from how bossy she is and I’m still not sure if Jules even wants to be the legion queen? As long as Jules is queen Emilia will just boss her around and act like she’s the queen herself. Jules didn’t stand out to me in this book and her friendship with Arsinoe just seems so dull compared to the first two books. Katharine knew what was coming for her, glad Arsinoe got her revenge for Mira. Pietyr should have fell down the cliff along with his ‘sweet Katharine’ since he dared to stab Billy.
I love Mirabella, Arsinoe and Billy and I will definitely re read this series in the future.

You know what? It was a good ending for a series and sometimes that can be hard to find.
Great ending to a fantastically dark series that manages to keep surprising you! I sincerely hope that this gets adapted into a TV series— it’s ripe with potential for truly great television watching. This series was a great escape into a matriarchy that wasn’t paradise (which is always the temptation to do for escapism) and that remained complex to the end.
This series was one of the best series that I’ve ever read!
I could reread it in the future
So entertaining, interesting concept, amazing world.
