Five Dark Fates

Kendare Blake

3.84 AVERAGE

Such a solid ending!

Who survives? What is the fate of the isle of Fennbirn? Which queen takes the throne?

I guess you’ll just have to read it! I can say literally nothing without spoiling the entire series. Which isn’t fun for anyone.

I will say the ending was not what I expected. But I believe that it was definitely worth the wait. I stayed up late finishing it because I needed to know what happened!

After taking some time to reflect, I am satisfied with where most characters ended up. There is one character’s fate that shall not be named that I’m still struggling with a little bit. But it didn’t ruin the story for me.

I’m very excited to get my hands on the novella prequel: Queens of Fennbirn, and her newest novel: Champion of Fate.

Such a heartbreaking, but satisfying ending. A very masterful writer.

3.5 stars

I have to give the entire series a 4/5. If I could have rated the final book a 3.85 I would, but I rounded up. Parts of it I absolutely loved, and I will forever love Katharine in a way I didn’t her sisters (even though I had fondness for them). But a few things happened plot wise in the last book which made me less satisfied. However, I wanted to keep reading and didn’t feel ready to leave this world.

HOWEVER, I loved that the love stories were secondary in a book series about three sisters. And at the end of the day I rooted for them in a way I couldn’t for Jules or Emilie (whose war gift felt way to Ares for me.)

While I’ve had my issues with this series, this author improves with every book she writes - I’m excited to see where she goes in the future.

Spoiler Honestly, I have to say I loved the series thoroughly but this book was in my opinion the worst. I feel like i wanted more than it had to offer to wrap up this story of set destiny/prophecy. Why was Mirabella so talented and strong to not even fight back with her powers while she died? Why was Katherine consumed by these dead queens but the dead queens never did harm to her body like they did to Rho? Don't even get me started on Arsinoe and Chatsworth, could you even call that a love interest? I feel like they more came off as her friend zoning him or a brother... i was surprised in the end that Arsinoe lived but there didn't seem to be a real reason for it. Obviously Jules had to live as the legion queen and if you didn't call that a mile away, were you even reading? I just felt there was so much history and back story that could have made this last book stronger but it got glossed over.
