I had no clue how this was going to end and I have to say I was not expecting the way it did. Like many of the other books in this series this one picks up to a crazy pace towards the end. So much happens so quickly and I wish it would have been longer in order to give these event better detail and weight, some things were just lacking. Even with that, I was still happy with it, loved the journey and continue to love this series.
I really got sucked into the whole sisterhood aspect and loved the three main characters for entirely different reasons. So much that once Jules and later Emilia were added, I was frustrated with them. The biggest frustration was that the Legion curse was never explored to make me fall for Jules' character, her struggle, etc. She just slept through it until she was "cured". Plus, her love story was never fully developed and I never came to care for two individuals who became a big part of the story.
All that being said, I was totally invested in the sisters. I wasn't happy with the ending but it was a great ride and they are so quick to read!

Wow. Just...wow. Even though this ended up being my least favorite book of the series, I really liked this. It hit me in so many places and also left me hooked, particularly in the second half. The first thing I really liked was the story. I liked the main rebellion plot, as well as the other more minor, but still important, subplots. They all combine together to create this well-written and fascinating bang-out of a finale. Through this plot, we saw both sides of the conflict, and learned so much more about the characters and what is happening. It wasn't perfect, though, as there were multiple times where I felt that the story was going in forty different directions at once. When that happened, the story felt more exhausting and confusing. There were also some events that made the story less good and brought down my enjoyment of the book. This book also had the most character and relationship development. So much is added to Arsinoe, Katharine, Mirabella, Jules, Billy, Emilia, and much more. We see that Katharine is not pure evil, but she can be both a cruel queen and an empathetic person. Emilia genuinely cares about both this cause and Jules. Mirabella is just as cunning and intelligent as she is caring, and she is VERY caring. I could go on and on about all these different characters and their development. Let's not forget the amazing development of Billy and Arsinoe's relationship. It was so good, and they were so cute and sweet. It's honestly such a breath of fresh air after the dumpster fire that was the Jules-Joseph-Mirabella love triangle. Finally, and I know this is a little late and repetitive, I love love LOVE the worldbuilding. I will die on the hill of this series having some of the world's most amazing worldbuilding. Not only does what you already know suck you right into the book, but we still manage to learn more about Fennbirn due to its...unique situation. Overall, this was a super satisfying and intense ending to such a wonderful series.
So I really flew through this not wanting to do other work haha but overall I really liked it, I've got to say I'm a bit disappointed with the ending though. Side note I really love the names in this series? They're all so pretty. Five Dark Fates finally brought the epic battle scenes and epic it was, even as the series hit its conclusion. Kendare Blake certainly isn't afraid of killing off characters... I think it ended on a satisfactory note though, and I'm interested to see what Kendare Blake does next.
Spoiler
I swear the synopsis said Pietyr was dead but he had such a great role to play in this one! I felt like the Daphne storyline wasn't really resolved and I didn't like that, also why did Mirabella have to die (I'm decidedly less upset with Katharine, gotta say. But also Arsinoe and Billy survived! I really wanted them to run away to Centra though...

A pesar de que la saga se extendió hasta un cuarto libro, algunas partes se sienten apresuradas o que se solucionan muy de la nada. Aunque supongo que el final tiene sentido, Kendare Blake me rompió el corazón con ciertas muertes :(

Overall I really enjoyed this series, though it did lose some wind for me but that could be from breaks I took in between books. This was a well done series & I enjoyed the final wrap up. I was happy the author didn’t shy away from killing some critical characters & the battle scenes were vivid and entertaining.
