“queen katharine’s merciless rule” is how the synopsis of this book starts and I wish. I wish it was actually a merciless rule or even a rule at all. there was actually no ruling in this book, no actual governance happening for people to oppose and fight against and even what little drama there was concerning the rebellion fell flat - unbelievably dumb, half baked plans for a rebel force that lacked everything, even heart.
I didn’t struggle reading this book and at times it even drew my in with the mystery surrounding the dead queens and the mist, but the resolution of both of those mysteries leaves so much to desire that I can’t say I enjoyed this book.
it feels unpolished. like a first draft that should’ve been rewritten to add more complexity to the story and more depth to the plot and the characters.
as a series, it’s a typical conclusion- a big battle at the end that lets the good guys live happily ever after. I’m not a fan of that. even if it’s a cliché, I still think it could’ve been done better. and god, even if I agree that kat’s ending was pretty good, I still wish for more of the drama between her and pietyr, since thiers was one of the most interesting relationships in the series.
in the end, this book, much like the rest of the series failed to impress me - 3 stars for book 4 from me. and the same for the series overall.
not awful, but not great either = mid tier imho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pick up when very, very bored, but there’s others more worth your time.

I am sad that this series is over. How I wish that I could forget everything and read the books for the very first time. As I was reading this book, I kept on hoping that the triplets would find a way to cheat the system in such a way that nobody has to die because each of them deserves to have their own happy ending. The sisters taught us different life lessons:
Mirabella: We can learn that no matter how strong we may think we are, there would always be things beyond our ability. We cannot deny the fact that it's human nature to feel superior every once in awhile. Still at the end of the day, there would always be someone who is better than us. Having the eyes to see the goodness in everyone is a quality of a great leader.
Arsenoe : We can learn even the toughest and bravest person has a soft side. Sometimes we feel hopeless due to the circumstances that we are born into,, but let us remember that life is not a series of chances but a series of choices. With that in mind, let us remember that we are the masters of our own destiny.
Katharine: We can learn that being young can make us foolish. Making mistakes is a part of life. We may not be able to undo the things that we did, but having the courage to accept and admit them is what makes a person unique and beautiful.
I really enjoyed every single book in this series and I highly recommend it!

The whole ENTHRALLS!!!!
Soulful and addictive. I’ve been reading this series since it came out and have be OBSESSED!!
MAGNIFICENT!! Painful at times but so worth the journey!
Intricate characters that you oddly become close to. Dazzling and intense wartime scenes - sounds and impact. So sad that the series is over but Fennbirn and The Queens will always remain in my heart and soul. Thank you Kendare Blake, for allowing us to peer within and find ourselves in your work.

I started a new job that kept me from reading which is why it took me so long to finish this one. Maybe the best one? Honestly really made Mira died but I like that they gave Kat a little redemption arc. The actual ending is honestly blah and I’m just glad the series is over.
A stellar ending to a gripping series. Blake is an ice hearted feels murderer. I'm not ok. Send help.
