This is what happens when an author has obvious favoritism for a handful of absolutely absolutely useless characters that everyone else ignores for the other characters with actual depth. I'll give you 3 guesses which characters don't survive.

However, the jokes on me because I read every one of these books, so congrats Kendare Blake! May we all have the good fortune to publish sub par books and still receive praise!

I was enjoying this series, but man the ending was so underwhelming and disappointing. Really it's a one star ending for me. Jules and Emilia are characters I just never found myself rooting for and I find really unworthy of any leadership role to be honest...the lore in the end felt kind of pointless? Many unanswered questions. Doesn't really feel as though there's been much positive change in the end? Honestly I'm just confused with it all.

it took me so long to finish this maybe because I was adjusting to my new sched in my new uni! But yea so I was so sad my all time fave in the series died fr. I hated Kat but yk it is what it is. And I didn't quite like Jules. 3 out of 5 as always. I don't have anything else to say. Oh Arsinoe just has my heart <333 her and Mira. Their trust between each other is great. This is it for the series! I'm not gonna read the spin offs.

3.5✨

So… this was very promising
Gave me a good political conflict and GoT vibes But that ending let me down for sure
Still i realised this was the Peak of the series and i’ll go lower the reviews of the others

A solidly average YA fantasy series. I liked this one slightly more than most just because of the darkness of the concept of triplet queens fighting to the death for the throne. That's a very cool concept and I think a lot more could have been done with it if only the Three Dark Crowns had not been so unapologetically YA and/or had chosen to broke some of those YA glass ceilings. As a disclaimer, I like YA, I read a lot of YA, and it's okay to criticize the things you like.

In this finale to the series it seemed like some of the characters acted completely out of character in order to advance the plot or to be able to tie up loose ends that otherwise had no way of being tied up. That was a bummer, to have spent 4 books with these characters and then they start acting like completely different people in order to wrap things up. Boo.

There were a lot of places this series could have gone and it consistently chose the least interesting path or the path of least resistance. That's pretty much the theme here: great potential not realized.

I didn't hate it, though. A perfectly average YA fantasy. Three stars.
