This book probably deserves a higher rating. But I am bitter. And so this rating shall remain. It was a good conclusion. Most of the characters I wanted to live did live. It was a nice conclusion. It was fast paced but still didn’t feel rushed. And I liked the final battle. The stakes were high, it wasn’t quickly ended and a lot of the plot points were wrapped up. The entire premise of this series is that one queen survives whilst the other two dies. Yet when that happens, I don’t like it. Mirabella’s death hurt. It was so sudden. It was tragic. It made sense for the plot but I still hate it. It was an awful ending for her. There was at least something to come of it with the mist protecting Arsinoe but I’m still bitter. I did like Katharine’s ending. There was no way in my eyes that she would survive at the end. And her sacrifice was an almost full circle moment of her admitting she went too far and she got to die as herself. I did not expect the Pietyr redemption arc but I accept it. It made sense for his character. The ending was nice and I like how it was set up for Billy and Arsinoe to have to let each other go, only for the end to be like as fucking if. It’s the only healthy relationship. Let them live. Billy is the best man. Underrated book boyfriend. Luca is such a complex character and I love the relationship between her, Elizabeth and Bree that’s explored more outside of Mirabella’s presence. I did enjoy this series. I definitely feel like it could’ve been a trilogy but it did balance out as the last book was filler and this book had a good pace in my opinion.
WHOSE WAS THE FIFTH DARK FATE? Seriously, I need to know. I just cannot figure this out. All the other titles have been so literal and this one didn’t make any sense.
Anyway I’m all for not being shy about killing off character, so while I was pleasantly surprised at first I ended up being a little...disappointed at the body count at the end of the final battle. Too many secondary characters still alive imo.

W O W. It's been a long time since a series has had such an impact on me. This book was an absolute rollercoaster of emotion and I'm in shock at how so much can fit in just a few hundred pages. Kendare Blake you are a master.
I've been waiting for this final installment. It came out, and my hold came in and ... I'm done. I'll admit, I was a bit rushed, listening to the audiobook as I did other things. Perhaps not giving this the full attention I should have. But I enjoyed jumping back into this world (and I've been surprised that I can, after waiting a year or so between books - often I struggle with remembering, but I guess this storyline is so unique that it stuck with me over time. I love the narrator, and while she has voiced other books, I haven't heard her in anything but this. This voice is THIS world for me).
I don't know that THIS book was a four-star read for me, but I think I allowed my feelings for the series as a whole to just roll over and leave me content with the conclusion. This is not always the case (ie [b:Hellfire|19190905|Hellfire (Unbinding Fate, #5)|Colee Firman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1413994080l/19190905._SX50_.jpg|27233479] ... seriously ruined the series for me!)
Such a unique storyline for this series. I loved it.

Just a sort of incomplete mess of a finale. Who are the five dark fates? What happened to the mist? Why even have a legion queen? What is this nonsense? Very disappointing as the series started so strong.
2.5 ⭐️ This final instalment had a lot of action and finally crowned a queen. The ending was fine, but it didn’t matter to me which queen won in the end. I like that the author brought it back to the first book, and actually had two queens die and own win. The relationships were weird and the possession of the queens felt like it was just added in randomly. Jules and Emilia deserved more of a significant part. I didn’t likeP Pietyr he just switched sides randomly. I also thought Arsinoe all of a sudden became very powerful and she wasn’t described as that ever before. The mist also didn’t fit into the story well. Neither did the point of the quadruplet queens. I think this series could have been a trilogy, and had the last two books combined and better planned out.
