Dallas can get a bit much as a narrator.
Silas, I started disliking him.
After Dallas bending backwards, feeding him, stooping to prostitution for him, saving his life, killing Omar twice, and getting him off a cult island, and he's gonna give Dalla a free breakfast and a wiskey? As Bonus? Dallas needs a backbone around him, omg, and just ask him to pay his rent for a few months, or smth. Poor Barnaby gets the worst end of the bargan.

Zane has done no wrong, as far as I can see.
I know this is a part in a series, but were given very very little info about everything. Backstories, histories, necromancers and why they're banned, cults, religions, gods, etc. We'll probably get it whenever the author wants to reveal a plot twist, or smth.

This book also heavily refers to the the first part, the short story that I couldn't find anywhere, and that kinda annoyed me.

It was a fun, light read. I like the world.

Fun premise
Good world building
Great characters
Funny banter that isn't OTT... I found myself laughing out loud in different events.

However, it's lacking in the romance category imo.
We don't even know who Dallas will end up with
the vamp/thrall or the incubus?
Will it eventually be MMM?
Will Dallas always want to sleep with everything wit a pulse/
So many unanswered questions lol.

Audiobook narrated by Kirt Graves was great as always.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Find the Jinn is the first full length novel by Maz Maddox in the Wilde Contracts series. Dallas Wilde is a man of many talents some of which include murder for hire and fish training. In his spare time he hunts necromancer’s and kills vampires. When a necromancer's killing goes horribly wrong Dallas finds himself with a new bodyguard and side effects he doesn’t know how to deal with. He also has taken on a contract that serves to be way more complicated than he expects. With everything going crazy around him Dallas finds himself in over his head and hoping to make it out alive.

Dallas Wilde is a mess of a human. He is passionate about his best friend Kevin the beta fish, tormenting his reluctant friend and landlord Barnaby and enjoying the throws of passion with whoever tickles his fancy. His extreme hate for vampires is put to the test when Zane, the thrall vampire, assumes the position of his bodyguard and refuses to leave his side. Add in the complicated feelings for Sias and the job he’s hired Dallas for and Dallas is left with a mess of his own making and a short period of time to figure it all out.

Murder was my day job, fish training my hobby, but my passions were sex, good food, and hunting vampires.

I highly recommend reading the novella Kill the Messenger before jumping into Find the Jinn as you meet Dallas and get a general idea of the urban fantasy world Maddox has created. That being said, this book is an urban fantasy single POV adventure with some semblance of a romantic subplot in the future. If you are going into this book expecting romance you will be disappointed but if you are looking for a wacky fun adventure with a morally questionable MC leading the way then look no further. There’s some steam to be had in this book, don't get me wrong but it is not necessarily a typical approach to a romance. I am looking forward to another Dallas Wilde quest.

4 stars for Dallas Wilde’s zany and absurd adventure into necromancy and causing chaos.

lots of crazy going on…

Well, this was not quite what I was expecting. It’s not a romance although there is sex and potential for the future, this was far more urban fantasy. Dallas is a mess; a huge mess! I’m not sure how he functions as well as he does (spoiler: he doesn’t function well). There is definitely trauma in his past we don’t know about (yet) that will be key to knowing him better. There was a lot of action and danger. I liked Zane. Silas was another we don’t get to know well but I generally like him as well.

I am looking forward to see where this goes.

So I didn't realise this wasn't a complete story until I only had an hour left in the audiobook - hopefully the second one will come out soon!

This is interesting, because I was expecting it to be a romance book and it's not (again, hoping there will be a second book with more romance and that this is just a really long slow burn) BUT, while there's no romance, there are 2 graphic sex scenes between the MC and 2 different side characters, and 2 erotic vampire blood sucking scenes between the MC and his vampire bodyguard.

The synopsis also makes this book sound like it'll be sillier than it is - it does have its silly moments, but not too many, and it knows when to be serious. The humour was actually pretty much to my liking and I did laugh out loud a few times. It's very action-packed, and there's also never any info-dumping, the audience gets told new information only when we need to know it.

So yeah, if you're looking for a queer action-packed urban fantasy book, look no further.

ALSO, the main character has a landlord called Barnaby who is an asexual succubus that owns a antique erotica store, and I realised the character reminded me SO MUCH of Aziraphale from Good Omens that I just started picturing him being Aziraphale after a while. I just wanted to mention that here so anyone reading this review can also have that image in their heads when they read the book.
