I have to say, I am impressed with how far Drew Hayes has come with writing female characters! Yeah, they're still all generally described as thin, and mostly attractive, but there's far less attention given, either by the narration or male characters, to their bodies and sex appeal. There's also am impressive amount of focus on female friendships, and very little on romance. And there are several POC characters! Much as I loved the Super Powereds series, this has far more interesting characterisation. And it's incredibly impressive that he managed to create two totally unique superhero/villain universes.

Quite a bit more violent than most of Drew Hayes' other books. There are some graphic descriptions of superpower-induced deaths. Typically these are brief, but occasionally somewhat detailed with blood and gore. Howeverkatietopp's review against another edition

Don’t let the long read time fool you. Excellent read in an interesting world in Hayes specific style. I cannot wait for the next one.
