Rewarding ending after the difficult first two chapters
Purple, twee, yet still largely essential. A scurvy lot of unpleasant characters circling the drain, wrapped in a selection of Faulkner's varied histrionic prose styles.
Famous for the chapter 1, told from the point of view of an idiot, but chapters 2 and 4 are actually better, a Harvard student approaching his suicide, and the ending when all falls apart.
Like all Faulkner, better read when young. I am no longer amused by deliberate obfuscation, such as the omission of key plot points, and so many characters sharing so few names. You are welcome to it.
Be sure to get a version including the appendix Faulkner wrote in 1946.

Tragic, reflective, and distant, all compose the intricate tapestry of William Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury". Immersive imagery and painfully complex characters kill and revive the spirit over and over again, as Faulkner demands the reader to contemplate how an individual's fragile past must keep up with the ever-changing backdrop of the present. For first-time readers of Faulkner, I would recommend using a guide given the deluge of scene shifts within Benjy's and Quinton's sections. I used "A Reader's Guide to William Faulkner" by Volpe and found that it helped me understand and appreciate the magnificence of the story to a higher extent. The novel is not fast-paced at all, as it takes an air of reminiscence in regard to the Compson brother's memories. Take your time when reading, and enjoy the emotional length of it, for that is where I found the beauty of the story.

This book is well-written, from a literary standpoint, but it is very, very racist and masoginistic. The Compson family's struggles hinge around the sister, Caddy, but she is not given a voice to tell her own story. I read this book for a grad school literature class, and can appreciate the writing, but I wouldn't recommend it for casual reading.

Don't have a lot of experience with Faulkner but this was transcendent, while also paradoxically in the mud and grime. Some astonishing prose and point of views, streams of consciousness. At times like a painter throwing strokes across the canvas. So vivid. Faulkner has a vision and he put it right onto the page. I've never read such real, flesh characters. True classic.

The first two sections are a challenge to get through but the payoff is well worth it. I especially loved the appendix at the end.
Wow! I need to sit down and gather my thoughts.
The Sound and The Fury delves into the intricate lives of the Compson family, what make it more interesting to read is the different narrative styles used in different parts. Different part captures the complex inner lives of the characters, and to be honest it's a rewarding story of themes; time and memory.
