I was excited to read another Atwood book, but I so wanted to put this one into my DNF shelf. One main issue I had were the sections dealing with child abuse. Another was just how dark the future is in this novel. This book was not for me.

Atwood is a special crafter of dystopian societies, and this one takes the “crake.” The mix of science fiction and dystopian was fantastic, but her themes of art and beauty and humanity were very well done. I’ll be finding the next two in the series very soon

I last read this book in 2004, on a camping trip. It was my first Atwood read and I loved it. It was fascinating to read it again, a decade older and at a different place in my life. I found the story compelling and the writing superb, as I would expect.

I'm finally realized that I don't enjoy books if there isn't at least one character that I care about. This book includes a great deal of description and the world it describes is pretty interesting to consider, but it's not my thing.
