I’m glad that this can definitely be read as a stand alone! It was amazing. I loved the realism and action. It was extremely scary in its realistic depiction of things that could actually happen in the world. Saga was probably my favourite character and I’d like to see more from her if I were to read on in the series.
This story is about a detective named joona who 7 years ago took a serial killer case involving a man named jurek who kidnapped children. He was known as the sandman. It follows a couple different perspectives as we follow the reopening of the case when a previous victim (michel) was supposed to be dead. The detectives take the case back to find his sister which he deems is also still alive.

Με μαύρους κύκλους από την αϋπνία και δαγκωμένα χείλια από την αγωνία κλείνω αυτό το βιβλίο και αναρωτιέμαι: ΓΙΑΤΙ;; γιατί αυτό το τέλος;; γιατί αυτές οι τελευταίες τέσσερις γραμμές;;
Καταιγιστική δράση από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος, απίθανη πλοκή, και ένας πολύ ανατριχιαστικός ψυχοπαθής δολοφόνος. Τι άλλο να ζητήσει κανείς από ένα αστυνομικό;
Το καλύτερο κατ' εμέ βιβλίο της σειράς μέχρι στιγμής! Ελπίζω μόνο να μην αργήσουν να εκδώσουν το επόμενο στα ελληνικά!

Yes, still getting better! Joona is now trying to find a girl his greatest enemy kidnapped years ago. The enemy sits isolated in a special unit. But, everything is not right. Saga is back, and ends up in isolation with the bad man. Who will survive, who will die? Brutal, deadly, bloody, nasty, intriguing, great thriller. Creepy, creepy! Joona thought he‘d gone through the worst possible years ago, sadly he wasn‘t right... 4,5 stars
A gripping, fantastically Scandinavian, crime thriller. Nordic Noir at its very best.
I really could not put this book down and thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The short chapters add to the intense pace of the story.
I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways. I was unaware of this author until now, so haven't read any others in the Joona Linna series, but will be searching them out (even though I'll be reading them in the wrong order).

I have been saving this book for the summer and I devoured it! @crimebythebook first got me into Lars Kepler and Abby always said this book was one of her favourites. So I kept it for a time when I knew I could just sit and read and I am so glad I did. This book had it all: it was dark, disturbing and The Sandman was terrifying. He seemed like a quiet patient who wasn't capable of harming anyone. He is a master manipulator, who has been patiently awaiting his revenge for years while being held in a maximum security psychiatric facility on his own.
An injured male was found wandering a train track in the snow and he was later identified as Mikael Kohler-Frost, who had been disappeared with his sister 13 years ago. Joona Linna always believed that Jurek Walter had taken them. Mikael confirms his sister is alive, so the countdown is on to find her.
Book is fast paced, the chapters are short which makes it virtually impossible to put the book down and the ending!!! OMG the ending! I am on the edge of my seat.

oooohhhh this was sooo good. very thomas harris meets tarantino. super gory and low key psychological. and very short chapters!!!! reading this makes me want to revisit my adolescence of constantly reading dean koontz.... but the sandman's plot was amazing and surprising even though saga's portrayal at the end just made me so frustrated. but ya would recommend
