In an unexpected turn of events, I read this book in one sitting when my son woke up at 11pm and struggled to get back to sleep until after 2am so I read this to him in between many cups of milk and face-tickle breaks.

I had read this when I was in middle school and remembered really liking it but whoa buddy did I forget how heartbreaking this book was. Well, maybe I’m just more sensitive now. Parenthood has made me very squishy. Overall, I loved it. I chuckled, I cried a lot, the moral was an important one about cherishing the things and people we love. And we stan a satisfying ending.

With or without kids, I would recommend giving this book a read.

This book makes me want to cry every time I read it. Even though Edward was a little self-absorbed in the beginning, he learns to love.
