The ending was the most interesting part of the book. If only the first 200 pages were the same...

I did enjoy Ice Kissed but I had so many problems with it. I also expected it to live up to the first book in the series and be amazing. Sadly I am disappointed. Ice Kissed was good, but it won't be like Frostfire were I raved about it often.

Ridley and Bryn return back from Skojare with nothing. The Queen is still missing, no one knows who did it. Then the Queen visits Bryn in a dream, giving Bryn the opportunity to find her. The Queen fears for her safety and to keep alliances strong between the Kanin and Skojare Bryn and Kasper (part of the Hogdragon) are sent to retrain the Skojare guard. But things don't go according to plan. Neither does Bryn's life plan. Who does she trust? What does she want? Is this what she wants for herself?

Bryn starts out Ice Kissed with the same dreams and goals as she had in Frostfire. Become a Hogdragon and protect her kingdom. But we watch as she tries to reclaim herself after loosing Konstantin and Viktor at the end of Frostfire, slowly come to realize that maybe she wants more out of her life. Ridley and Bryn take a huge step in their relationship, which I had hoped would open Bryn's eyes. It did. But she wants to be a Hogdragon and a relationship with her boss would be frowned upon. I wished that Hocking had added a bit more romance to Ice Kissed. There were a few parts that kepts me satisfied but the whole book my mind was: "I want more Ridley and Bryn!"

In Ice Kissed they seemed more focus on who kidnapped the Queen and why rather then the conflicts that remained from Frostfire. The plot was slow and dragged in some places, it always felt repetitive, and a lot of the minor characters seemed dull and undeveloped. The last twenty pages were my favorite, some questions are answered and a whole crap load of things happen. Which sets the stage for book three. I am optimistic to with Hocking's work because she never disappointed me before. I am crossing my fingers that Crystal Fire will be much better.

My Thoughts
When I found out about this new spin-off series by Amanda I knew I had to read it, and once I closed the pages of Frostfire I could not wait to get hold of Ice Kissed and see what happens next, and as soon as I began reading I knew I was not going to be disappointed.

Ice Kissed picks up after events of first book, Frostfire, with Bryn And Ridley returning home with the bad news that Queen Linnea could not be found. But thier returns sparks a fire, and the King insists that war will be declared against Konstantin and anyone in allegiance with him. this results in a mass training of all trackers. However, after dreaming about Queen Linnea, Bryn is convinced the Queen is alive, but hiding, and seeks out her Mothers help. The conversation they had was serious for them, but also included some comic relief.

She raised an eyebrow at me. "For a magical place that probably doesn't really exist? No, I'm sorry, I don't. It's like asking for specific directions to Narnia."
"You just go through the wardrobe to get to Narnia. That's pretty specific."

Now is the point where my review stops with the specific details, and just focuses on my feelings after putting Ice Kissed down.

Ice Kissed was not what I expected, but I mean this in the best possible way. I love the twists and turns that we are taken on with Bryn as she tries to uncover secrets and the lies in Storvatten. There was obviously something going on that they wanted to keep hidden from Bryn and when I thought I had the suspect pinned down, my ideas were blown away when that person was taken out of the running.. But whilst Bryn was in Storvatten I also felt saddened by how the palace was deteriorating. Seeing how she describes the smells of mildew, the peeling wallpapers, and the lack of care and pride in the palace really made me sad. Imagine how amazing an underwater palace would be if it was lived in with pride and respect for it.

As the plot was slowly revealed I did begin to connect a few dots, but I never expected it to end the way it did. I was shocked and cried over the death that completely came out of the blue, I even had to read the paragraph again to make sure I had read it correctly. I do have an idea of why someones personality had changed, and I'm interested in seeing how far this change goes, both for this person alone, and within the palace.

Ice Kissed was a great read from start to finish, and I think I loved this one more than Frostfire.

Final Verdict
Ice Kissed is a great addition to this new series, and not once did it suffer from 'Middle Book Syndrome'. After the ending that we are left with, I need the next book in my hands now.
