I read this such a long time ago...I was, what, eight?
Anyways, I think it was my older sister that got me to read this. I don't remember it very well, quite obviously, but I enjoyed it.

Reading this book was a mistake because it always makes me weep.
A lot more interesting than expected! I found Bradley to be a fascinatingly complex character and enjoyed following the various changes in his life after he started meeting and talking with Carla. This book emphasizes how important a school counselor is for not only troubled students, but ones that just need someone to talk to about their problems.
There’s A Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom by Louis Sachar is the heart-warming tale of Bradley Chalkers, a badly behaved and misunderstood nine-year-old. Bradley is a societal outcast within his school yet is simultaneously infamous for his bad behaviour and elaborate untruths. Help seems beyond possible for Bradley yet when Cara, the quirky and vibrantly outfitted new school counsellor starts at Red Hill Primary School there is finally hope for Bradley. At first hateful and resentful, Bradley opens up to exploring what is on his mind and the pair discuss everything from outer space monsters to the man who shot his father. Through the interactions between Bradley and his stuffed animals (who he plays imaginary games with) reveal the sensitivity that Bradley’s ostensible hostility camouflages. Indeed, beneath the demeanour of a hateful, rude and deceitful boy lies a child craving human company and comfort. This book explores some hard-hitting issues from the perspective of a young boy in a fresh and memorable way. The characters leap off the pages in a way that renders them as colourful in the mind’s eye as Cara’s outfits. The descriptions of Cara’s vivid outfits perhaps serve as a metaphor for the multi-faceted ways mental health can manifest in children. Under Cara’s influence, Bradley transforms into a likeable boy who is able to achieve gold stars on his homework, accept the help of his family and enjoy a birthday party with a group of classmates.
