It was exactly what i was expecting, just like the anime and the manga. I really enjoy characters growth throughout a story and Bell Cranell’s is my favorite.

I want my son to become stronger, though it’s so weird that he’s 14 years old he has grown ass women after him which doesn’t sit right with me.

Anyways, Vol. 1 is a good introduction to Bell’s story and i can’t wait to keep reading how much he grows

The anime does the light novel justice by sticking closely to the source material.

This volume feels sort of slow. It might be because I've seen several seasons of the anime, so I'm just not remembering the beginning perfectly, but so much time is spent on stuff I don't really care about and on Bell's "motivations" to pick up girls when he clearly doesn't actually care that much (outside of Aiz).

Still, Bell is a fun character to follow and see the development of, with actual character development clearly visible beyond the simple "number go up" that's common in these types of series. Danmachi is definitely a good series, and I'm thinking I'll probably pick up further volumes to read through the light novel version of events, but the start feels a tad slower than I'd like for sure.

As someone who watched the anime it was very strange getting more of a look at Bell's internal dialogue. He's much more of a lecher than I remember in the anime. Book is solid if a bit slow for how short it is.

This book is optimistic and unrelentingly sweet. It's like a Hallmark movie but instead of pandering to moms with the setting they pander to gamers. If you're in the mood for some feel-good litRPG this will definitely satisfy your craving.

You can definitely tell that the protagonist is an adolescent boy the entire time. While that's great that the writer was able to really share Bell's thoughts and emotions,13 year old boys are very scattered. The anime was fantastic, but the light novel was disappointing.

I didn't read this for the story. It is a source of shame. Don't judge me.

DID NOT FINISH

It's alright. It's just a manga turned into a (light) novel, so you can't expect very good writing. But it is easy to digest, and I recommend it to avid manga fans, who would no doubt enjoy it more than I did. So I won't be writing any harsh criticisms here, considering what it is...

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
