I do feel some stories could have been a little longer but overall a lovely collection and it's very much deserves its four stars.

D is for Dinosaur – An Anthology.

4 star review

D is for Dinosaur is a collection of 26 short stories about Dinosaurs – but not in the traditional sense! I was unsure of what to expect when I first looked at the synopsis for this book. Whilst I like Dinosaurs this was little out of my comfort zone but I thought I would give it a go! I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised! Whilst I didn’t like every story in the anthology I found them all to be interesting and really well written. I would imagine it’s hard to write a short story and still get everything in it but these authors did just that! They were 26 individual and unique stories. I really enjoyed reading it. I think this book definitely epitomises the phrase ‘you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover’! There were also some great hidden meanings in the stories! The stories ranged from 3 – 5 stars but were all interesting reads.

A by Michael M Jones
This short story is about Tanith who is very angry, in her dreams she turns into her dino-self Dinah. Whilst running she meets Daisy who reaches out to her – Tanith cannot understand why though! I thought this was a great opening story for the anthology and I really enjoyed it!
B by Simon Kewin
In this story we meet Bronte who is being bullied. Having finally had enough she decides to try and get revenge. This was another great story!
C by Brittany Warman
C is for Catechism and in this story we follow the catechism of dinosaurs and the life they live. I liked that this was written from a different POV than I was expecting!
D by C.S MacCath
This was an interesting one for me! I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it but I did. It’s about Alejandra Maria Yaotl, or Little Dinosaur who challenges the speaker of the city-state, Minsky Prime!
E by Gary B Phillips
I really liked this short story! It was about a photographer who is chosen to take part in a rare photo shoot – the meaning behind this was quite emotional too!
F by L.S. Johnson
This story was slightly different from the first few in the book but was still an interesting read. It is about Carol who falls for a man called Robert. Sadly for Carol, Robert turned about to be someone she didn’t expect as he slowly turned into a monster.
G by Suzanne J. Willis
This was a nice little adventurous story and I really enjoyed it! The characters in this story were tasked with making the right decision in order to save the city.
H by Megan Engelhardt
Again this short story was a nice surprise and a little different. It was about ancient species living and evolving.
I by Michael Fosburg
This is the story of Kitarcha and Aron. Brother and Sister who find themselves fighting to survive in Colossi.
J by Jeanne Kramer-Smyth
This story is about Bonnie who is a smuggler who is moving cells from Mars; this is her adventure and her plan to survive. A nice story!
K by Pete Aldin
This story is about two sailors, Bryn who are stranded at sea and their story of the Kraken.
L by Alexandra Seidel
This story is about complicated relationships, a girl, Corvy, who feels invisible and a story with some great twists and turns.
M by Michael B. Tager
In this story we see students Julia and Eddy and their attempts to clone a dinosaur for their school project!
N by KV Taylor
This story is about Judy. Judy is avenging the death of her Mother at the hands of her father. In this story N is for Necromancy.
O by Amanda C. Davis
This was another story that I enjoyed. It was about Hazel and Zigs who are building a time machine in order to hunt down dinosaurs!
P by Beth Cato
P is for Pet and is about Vincent who is a Velociraptor. Vincent is the imaginary friend of Carmen but he seems to be so much more!
Q by Lynn Hardaker
This was a nice magical story about two children who spend their summer in an old house and they find that they start getting everything they want! Will their egg be a dinosaur?
R by Sara Cleto
This story is about two sisters who remember a different time when they discover bones in their mother’s garden.
S by Jonathon C. Parrish
In this short story we see how dreams of moments that have passed by replace the sleep of an older lady. She wonders through space and time. This story has a nice ending to it.
T by Samantha Kymmell-Harvey
This story is about Maebelle whose parents want her to follow in their footsteps – but she has other ideas for her life! She has a great skill in working with silkworms that could win her a place at a prestigious school.
U by Michael Kellar
I liked this short story too! It was about a children’s author who has the chance to travel to another planet and be transformed into a dinosaur! A nice twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting.
V by Cory Cone
Ghostbusters of the dinosaur world! What a great, interesting story! I loved Archer, Michael and Jessi and their job of exterminating dinosaur infestations in houses!
W by Hal J. Friesen
This story was quite interesting! It was about Lisa who was trying to save dinosaurs affected by genetic abnormalities.
X by BD Wilson
A secretive story about underground labs where Dr Victor and others carry out experiments! Will they succeed in finding their cures or will the disease just spread further?
Y by Andrew Bourelle
Actually this story surprised me; it wasn’t what I was expecting! There a few different things going on that makes it a good read! An exotic drug that has been mixed with Japanese dinosaur bones that everybody wants and the lengths that they will do through to get it!
Z by Laura VanArendonk Baugh
This story is about Brianna and Brandon, sister and brother. One sibling worked hard to get where she is today, whilst the other seems to take the easy way out. Brandon needs Brianna’s help in this short story with decoding what appears to be ancient writing!

Overall an interesting anthology – maybe not the genre that I am used to reading but I still found that I enjoyed the majority of the stories in it. Anthologies are great way to find new authors and get a taste of their work.

D is for Dinosaur is an anthology of 26 interesting, intriguing and far out concepts. Each story is a little stranger, more fanatical than the last. This anthology is book 4 of a series of anthologies.

A is a story by Michael M Jones. It is a fun and interesting story about Tanith and her inner “beast”. Tanith must learn how to control this beast in order to be happen in life. A is for Angry

B is the second story in this anthology and is by Simon Kewin. This story is about Bronte who dreams of being a raptor although she would rather be a flying type of dinosaur so she could continue to “rise above” since that is her life motto. B is for Bronteaurus

C is a story by Brittany Warman. It’s a short story about being free, small and brave at the same time. C is for Catechism

D is by CS MacCath. This is a story about “…your people are dinosaurs in need of a mass extinction event.” This story includes slaves, power hungry leaders and a little violence. Another interesting story.

E by Gary B Phillips is the sad story of a photographer who happens to be a dad. He learns the bigger picture of life and happiness.

F is a story by L.S. Johnson. It tells about the unhappy marriage of Robert and Carol. Robert becomes abusive and starts to believe in a serpent type of species that lives on an island. He researches the myths and decides the myth is actually true. Discovery at what cost? Can Carol ever recover from this adventure?

G is a story by Suzanne J. Willis and tells about Pax, Abby and Evers. Pax is destined to become like his ancestors, but he just wants to protect his friends.

H is by Megan Englehardt which tells about beings transforming into humans and back into fish type creatures. Interesting idea.

I is for Invasion and is written by Michael Fosburg. It is about Kitarcha and how the Inaan people fight to survive.

J is for Jewelry by Jeanne Kramer-Smyth.Bonnie is a smuggler of cells which can only be transported through her own bone marrow. The cells come from Mars and when there is a delay in the transport it seems as if Bonnie’s body may use those cells and turn her into a dinosaur. Can Snyder help her in time?

K by Pete Aldin is the ultimate fish story. It is short and not so sweet.

L is by Alexandra Seidel. This story tells about Corvy and her inattentive mother. Corvy finds a glowing rock on their planet which is not Earth. This rock could mean many things. What will become of Corvy and her parents because of this rock?

M is for Mentation. It is a story by Michael B Tager and is about Eddy and Julia. It includes time travel and a cloning experiment gone wrong. This story was entertaining in a crazy way.

N is by KV Taylor and is about the child Julia who is able to bring dead things back to life. But what would it take for Julia to live?

O is by Amanda C Davis and is a strange story about Hazel and Zig. They time travel in order to save or create a different world through the destruction of all that is good.

P is another interesting story. This one is by Beth Cato. Cousins Reina and Carmen must get along. Carmen’s imaginary friend is a velociraptor named Vincent, who seems so much more than an imaginary friend. Would be interested in seeing if there was more to this story.

Q is by Lynn Hardaker. This is a magical story about a brother and a sister who must protect each other and an egg that will possibly hatch into a dinosaur. But not if “Uncle” Mitch has anything to say about it.

R is by Sara Cleto and is about two sisters, Lizzie and Laura, who discover bones in their mother’s garden. The bones are removed from the ground and taken for study. The bones seems to help the girls remember a different time.

S is by Jonathan C Parrish. This story is about how time stands still but also hoe is passes so quickly. Good times and bad.

T by Samantha Kymmell-Harvey is about a little girl named Maebelle. She lives in a time where dinosaurs are used as commonly as a horse. Their skins are used like any other animal for clothing and handbags. The dinosaurs are also used in studies and experiments in labs. Maebelle believes she has a different way to accomplish the same goals.

U is an unusual story by Michael Kellar. Raymond is our hero in this story. Ray has been chosen to travel to another planet where dinosaurs have lived and evolved. His transportation would include him being transformed into a dinosaur himself! I see nothing going wrong with this idea!

V is by Cory Cone. This story is about Archer, Michael and Jessi. These three guys are the Ghostbusters of the dinosaur world. They come to your house and exterminate your infestation of dinos. Another interesting idea for a story.

W is by Hal J Friesen and is about Lisa who is trying to save all the genetically abnormal dinosaurs as well as those humans affected by the same genetic disease.

X is by BD Wilson. Dr Victor works for an underground facility. There are many different labs and experiments going on. Many secrets in this story. Can these doctors find a cure or will they just spread more disease?

Y is by Andrew Bourelle. This story is about a rare and exotic drug that is mixed with ancient Japanese dinosaur bones. Everyone wants this drug, someone or something even kills for it.

Z by Laura VanArendonk Baugh is about Brianna and her brother Brandon. While Brianna studied hard to get where she is, Brandon seems to have taken the easy way out. When Brandon needs Brianna to decode what he believes to be ancient writing she agrees but at what cost?

This anthology is way different than what I normally read but the stories were entertaining and well written. Dinosaur lovers will truly enjoy these stories.
