3,5.

at times, i struggled to get through this book; at other times, i couldn't put it down.
probably more of a 3.5 for me because of the writing at points, but the plot and characters were enjoyable

So good to re-read a book I haven’t read in decades. Reminds me of my childhood oh my love of reading.
I really wanted to love this book. I found the first part more enjoyable than the rest. Meh.
I had to DNF around chapter 20 as it was getting as unbearable as Edgar Allen Poe's stories.
This book is extremely outdated, and sexist. Ms Alcott wrote it for little girls and young women to teach them how to be a "proper pet". Even Jo's character (I usually love tomboyish characters) couldn't save this disaster. What was the point of this book!?! There's no plot, no character development, only pages and pages and pages of "how to suck off to all the men". No distinctness in the characters, I kept mixing up those 4 sisters. The mom sucked equally. Bunch of random stories leading to nowhere but "oh dear, I will be a good pet from now on". The Penguin Deluxe cover lured me into reading this rubbish, hence one star for that cover.
