part 2 was what made me like this a whole lot more.
the characters were great but there was legit nothing really going on so i was just very bored most of the time especially during part 1 of the book.

Mr Brooke is a freak, save Meg. What a weird ending. Love Jo, love all the girls and obsessed with how they talk. Capital. Didn’t know all the God stuff would be in there, crazy!

Jo is a brilliant character but overall everyone is too nice and nothing really happens. I'm not a fan of everyday life books and I expected a lot more to happen in Little Women. All the interesting events must happen in Good Wives and I'll probably read it at some point out of curiosity. Nevertheless I can see why it's so popular with young girls, chances are you'll be able to relate to one of the March sisters. As a kid I hated it because I shared my name with Amy and thought she was a spoilt brat. If I had a different name I might of liked it more as I would have connected with Jo.

can you believe they named an entire month after the sisters from little women? (i was so determined to finish this in march until i realised it was a two-part series)
simple, plain, homely language for a book about simple, plain, homely lives. the characters are all so lovable (Laurie above all), but I will always have a soft spot for Jo and Amy, each perched on one shoulder. and Alcott is actually the funniest. I didn't realise that most of the plot happened in Good Wives.
Greta Gerwig really did the book justice with her 2019 adaptation. I couldn't help envisioning the entire cast throughout the whole book - literally one of the greatest movie adaptations of all time, the same calibre of Atonement and second only to the Shawshank Redemption.
favorite quotes:
"then your father came, and I was so happy that I found it easy to be good"
"race down this hill with me, and you'll be alright"
"something in the brown eyes looking down at her made her remember the cooling tea"
"I wish I had no heart, it aches so,"
"I just wish I could marry Meg myself, and keep her safe in the family"
"i keep turning over new leaves, and spoiling them...I make so many beginnings there never will be an end."
"now and then, in this workaday world, things do happen in the delightful storybook fashion, and what a comfort it is."
"his face was so full of suppressed excitement and his voice so treacherously joyful"
"I hate estimable young men with brown eyes!"
"will you try and find out?"
"the tea bell rang before he had finished describing the paradise which he meant to earn for Meg"
"unworldly as a pair of babies"
