Little Women

*3.5

I don't usually leave text reviews, but I had a hard time slogging through this. My mind kept drifting to other things I could be doing. I read it as part of a project that uses novels to show how American history felt, and I respect its place in creating a new genre of literature, etc., but it was hard for me to pay attention because I couldn't relate to anyone in it. I kept thinking, "How can you complain about being poor if you have a housekeeper?"

I read and annotated a copy of this book as a gift for my sister, and I loved every minute of it. This book is so precious and gentle and thoughtful and kind. Of course elements are dated, but the sentiment is all so lovely. Definitely worth a read, no matter your age.

Little Women was a fun book about the challenges of growing up and the changes in life that result from that. Jo is very opposed to all of these changes, something I can understand, as she is loosing her comfortable way of life. In the end, she learns to accept this for the better and sees the benefit in changing and growing older.
This book was easy to read but taught some important morals and had valuable messages about how we should conduct ourselves in the world and how we should treat each other.

Heart is full. It took a long while to finish this book. This book is something very unusual from the books I have read so far. This book is all about life, family, sorrows, happiness, contentment & what not ? Jo March from this book, is a unique kind of a woman I would relate because of her wit, her way of seeing the world & posting million questions to things which do not seem right to her. This book is a classic , such a classic that I truly realised why some books are called as Classic! A wonderful, wonderful read ♥️

Verdict: heartwarming, would recommend depending on the individual.

I did not think I would enjoy this book, being honest, since this is not the kind of literature I usually read, but it ended up pleasantly surprising me! I loved how each character gets more than enough time for us to learn about their personalities through their actions while still saving space for their character arcs, which are all in my opinion very well-developed. Jo is clearly meant to be the main-ish character—which is not surprising considering the book is based on the author's own childhood—and she was honestly a perfect fit, I loved how much thought was put into her personality and the decisions she takes [although the ending did leave me a bit confused, the relationship with Mr. Bhaer felt very rushed, and I didn't feel like it fit within the rest of the story].

I admit I didn't particularly relate to any of the characters and didn't connect with the story as well as I would've hoped, probably because I don't have either the experience of growing up as a girl nor the one of having siblings, but it was still an enjoyable read despite what me taking so long to finish it would make one thing (sorry, I was taking a bunch of summer courses and had to lock-in the last week).
