I’d gloss over the twee writing and obvious twists except for the concerning way relationships and self esteem is handled in a book aimed at teens. 2* because it’s not unreadable and I liked elements of the story.

Better than the movie. Not amazing, but fun.

As someone who grew up watching the movies but never read the books, I can now officially recommend. I really enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other. Bella and Edward’s banter in the first half of the book was quite amusing, and Alice and Jasper are both incredibly charming characters. There was definitely some cheesy scenes, and some where Edward was just a little weird, but I’m excited to read the rest of the series.

18 year old me loved everything about Twilight. Apart from ‘The Vampire Diaries’, there wasn’t much else related to vampire's in the young adult genre.
The premise of the book was so appealing to young girls, that the fandom alone made the release of each book in the series more exciting.
I remember falling in love with Edward and the idea of him immediately. He was a tortured soul, doomed to walk the earth alone for centuries, until he met Bella.

It’s been criticised over the years for poor writing quality, but ‘Stephanie Mayer’ never tried to insinuate it was a sophisticated, complex book. For what ‘Twilight’ is (a teen romance book) it’s Perfectly good & has certainly maintained its popularity as a coming of age story.
