A bit too abstract for me, but there are some fun absurdist bangers and a few heartbreakingly concrete poems.

i don't really know how to review this. i really struggled with finding the emotion or meaning in lot of the more convoluted poems (lockwood's verse is crass and absurd, populated with owls drinking their own urine) (this isn't an actual poem but it might as well be). they were usually fun and at times fulfilling but overall? i'm not too sure. i had the same question after reading priestdaddy - where the prose style went so above and beyond that i didn't know which way to read it (what was sincere or concerning or a joke). i probably need to read it again slower to figure some things out.

I didn't "get" it, but it's so weird that I'm happy it exists at all.

Although I have really enjoyed Lockwood’s prose in the past and was excited for this book, I had a hard time connecting to this collection of poetry. It felt overly contrived and inaccessible to the point of being intentionally profound and meant to make readers hate poetry. I don’t hate poetry but I certainly did not enjoy this book. There wasn’t a single poem in the collection that I would want to read again. I did find several turns of phrases and lines within the poems meaningful but it largely felt like a chore to read this rather than any sort of pleasure.

loved this! lockwood rlly is built different like no one is doing it like her. big lol moments throughout, whether by way of witty one liners or absurd combinations of incongruous things and batshit personifications of nature or literally whatever lockwood desires. can also hit on some surprising poignant moments tho (‘r*pe joke’ comes to mind, tho i’ve seen people say this is the least lockwood poem in the collection which i a little agree w but i still don’t think anyone but her cld write it). i esp love the longer poems, it’s really enthralling (and often hilarious) to read lockwood stretch an idea to its limits, like in the mother and father of american tit pics. i think sometimes the shorter ones dont sink in as much, but maybe tht comes w rereads. but yea real good
