So much fun! Love all the word play, quirky characters, and scratchy pen drawings! First time I have read since I was a kid and the magic and adventure still hold up.
This is the first time I've read The Phantom Tollbooth aloud to students, and it was a joy to read this way. We want to do it as a play. What I appreciated so much is that quality that great children's books have of giving you so much more memory than the actual written narrative. The richness just burrows in your soul.

I read this aloud to Edith - baby's first chapter book! A newborn can totally understand the subtleties of the wordplay in this book, right? Especially when she's busy nursing and/or sleeping. I'm 100% sure that she loved it too. Or at the very least, she didn't kick the book out of my hands!

One of my favorite books of all time. I love the lilting lyricism and wit of this, and I cannot overstate how much Juster gave me a love for language and a love for being hyperliteral with wordplay (I am looking away from my autism) and a love for English and a love for reading! I teared up at the end. I remember so many characters and images in this so vividly it took my breath away to reread it. Wow.
