✨Top Listen of 2021 ✨
I had totally forgotten how much I LOVE historical romance! But Ms. Amy Rose Bennett has totally reminded me! I love a good sibling's best friend book. So I was intrigued by this one. I freaking LOVE it!! Like all of it! Sophie and Nate were thoroughly entertaining on their own.... but then there were the others in the story. Sophie's 3 friends and also Nate's friends. Baron Buxton totally creeped me out from the start! I am totally drawing a blank on the man's name now.... but there was this other Viscount that was courting Sophie and he had me freaking SWOONING! Charlotte (Charlie) was a freaking riot! I absolutely adore her and I can not wait to get to her story in the series!

There were some super hot scenes that had me panting! And then there were the ones that brought a tear to my eye. Some of the most comical moments came from Miss Charlotte ..... she was totally someone that I identified with!

I listened to the audio of this and I was not tall all disappointed. Sienna Frances had me totally engaged the whole time and I was all in! I had that feeling that I was back in time listening to someone tell me the story of Sophie and Nate. Definitely a book that I will recommend to my friends!

I have typed and erased this review so many times but what it all boils down it was: It was fine.

There was nothing about the two main characters that made them stand out to me. Not like they need to have a super loud personality or be into some obscure hobby to make them interesting, I just found them both to be fairly generic.

Will I ever read it again? No.
Did I wish I had borrowed it from the library instead of purchasing it? Yes.
Did I have a hard time finishing it? No.
Will I read the next one in the series? Sure.

A good historical romance that made me smile and root for the characters.
The historical background is vivid, the characters are well thought and the plot flows.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I loved the premise for How to Catch a Wicked Viscount. A group of friends get kicked out of a ladies academy for drinking and reading disreputable material. Sophie and her friends are all banished completely from society, which is kind of a problem since they are all expected to make their debut and find a husband (as one does in historical England). The situation is more dire for Sophie Brightwell because her family's financial circumstances aren't all that great and one of her stepfather's acquaintances is making his interest know. Sophie is not impressed and instead dreams of publishing her children's novel and saving her family that way. Since publishing a novel will be tricky from the country, its a lucky thing that Sophie's friend, Lady Charlotte, invites her to town. Even better since Charlotte just so happens to have an attractive, rakish brother. Chances are that Sophie might just get to publish her novel and find a husband.

While the whole setup for How to Catch a Wicked Viscount was great, I personally felt that the story was lacking something. Sophie and Nate (the rakish brother of the friend) had a kind of tepid romance considering that they were "in love" by the end. Nate's this rake figure and suddenly Sophie makes him change his ways, and I gotta admit, I didn't really buy it. What was so special about Sophie? Not to mention, I'm rather tired of romances that market the ladies that came before the heroine as somehow not good enough. This doesn't exactly put the hero in the best of lights. I know that many romances have this same setup where the heroine is "special", I just feel that many others do this better, especially in painting a stronger picture of the hero and heroine's growing relationship.

Considering that I prefer my historical romances with much stronger character development, its clear that How to Catch a Wicked Viscount was just not for me. I read a lot of historical romance and this one struck me as a bit dated and simplistic.

I’m torn between 2.5/3 stars on this one.

My first historical romance so I don’t have much to compare it to in that regard. However, I think the book started pretty strong but the lack of emotional development instead of just sexual desire between the two leads turned me off in the end.

Sophie’s friends were pretty interesting though and I enjoyed their scenes together. I will probably pick up the other books in the series at some point.
