Didn't love the writing style and the subject matter (sexual assault) was too serious for the read I was looking for

Was really not interested in reading after my last book and was feeling badly about it. I knew this book has a show based on it, so I figured if I didn't get into it, I'd just watch the show, felt very low-stakes. Consumed as an audiobook as this seemed less daunting.

First of all, I thought this was going to be a VERY different book--  I thought the scandal involving a "minister" would be church related...  did not realize this was centered around a British politician.

Overall, this book was what I needed it to be-- it held my attention and I was interested to learn more. I think this was particularly consumable to me as I went to a University with similar demographics. It all felt eerily familiar, for better or worse. The twist about halfway through really caught me by surprise, and while the ending felt realistic it was a little dissatisfying. Always a good sign when I feel like I need to update my partner constantly on what's going on in the book.

The first half is very slow, but still engrossing. Things pick up in the second half. It kept my interest throughout. Some of the twists I guessed at, but I still overall thought this was well done
