Kudos to this author for a thought-through plot and enough breaking news sprinkled along the way to keep the pages turning. But . . . thought-through or not, the plot has some significant implausibilities, not least the mechanics of the crime that starts the book and the sheer number of sins and crimes that pile up by the end. And I was able to figure out the most serious villain much too soon. And, worst of all, it is hard to feel much empathy for any of the characters, who range from obliviously privileged to remote and judgmental. This author finally has superficial to non existent understanding of the topics she raises, including domestic violence and sexual assault. and In short this is an entertaining but forgettable tale.

'What you did' is a tale of six old college friends who get together after a long while. They are in their 40s, and the story begins on the night of this reunion. It involves a crime, and in the rest of the book, the protagonist tries to understand the how, the why, and the who.
There are some flashbacks that connect to the current story, but I think, they are not wholesome enough. The characters are not peeled out enough.
On the whole, I understand what the writer has tried to do, but while I was reading it, I felt that something was always missing. It was a quick read for me.
