Meeting up with best friends from your college days? What a reunion! Food, wine, laughs...and assault? Rape of your best friend to be exact, and the accused is your SO??? .

I couldn’t put this book down. There are two cases to solve: present and one in the past

Super thought provoking. Would make a great book club book as so much to discuss

“What You Did” by Claire McGowan is a psychological thriller that’ll keep you guessing until the very end.
A group of college friends gets together years after college. During their weekend one of the friends gets raped. And then the accusations and the difficult truth(?) comes out. .
The book is not at all scary. It does deal with the difficult topic of rape and because of that it’s not for the faint of heart. The book just really keeps you guessing all the way through. I didn’t guess the ending until I was almost reading it. Crazy stuff.
SPOILER ALERT:
There was a lot of times I had a difficult time relating to the characters. The main character, Ali, wanted to stand by her husband SO. MUCH!!! Even though he had cheated on her during their ENTIRE marriage! With her BFF!
I felt overall, the group of friends was just very unlikable. At least I wouldn’t want to be friends with them. That didn’t mean I didn’t like the book though. And to me that is some stellar writing. When the author can make me love a book, even when I don’t want to become friends with any of the characters.
This was one of July’s Amazon’s First Reads and I’m so glad I chose this book and I'd really recommend it if you enjoy this genre at all. I personally think you’ll love it. .

Really good. I kept wanting the story to get on with it and get to the big reveal, but I'm just impatient, I liked the story for sure. St. Elmo's Fire vibes slightly, maybe mixed with The Big chill.
I could not put down What You Did by Claire McGowan. The story begins with 6 college friends who reunite 25 years after graduating. Within a short time, though, one of them is raped, and one is accused. That act sets off a series of revelations spanning their 25 year relationships. There were some great, intricate twists in this story. But ultimately I rated it 3 stars because a lot of the revelations I saw coming from a mile away! The main character, Ali, was just either really stupid, or so self-centered that it just took the story down a little, for me. Overall, this was just a good story, not great. It reminded me somewhat of The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. I would read more stories by Ms, McGowan, she has potential.

I actually enjoyed this well enough, which I didn’t think I would because I am so goddamn sick of “woman is so vague she doesn’t see what’s right in front of her” plotlines - this one isn’t that much different, but I found it a lot easier to tolerate than others like “The Woman in Cabin 10” or “The Girl on the Train”. Ali’s husband is accused of raping a mutual friend - Ali wants to be a good feminist and believe Karen, but also doesn’t want to believe that the man she’s been with for twenty years is capable of such an act. Secrets come out - I’ll give this book that - it kept me guessing, but all the characters are awful in their own way and it was hard to have much sympathy for them. I read this in a sitting, it kept me interested, and I stayed up past my bedtime to finish it. Also it was free - definitely worth a read for the price.
