A terrific resolution to the series. This is one series I was disappointed to finish because now I don't have another book to look forward to anymore. I've been looking forward to moving on to the next book for awhile now, and it's been very pleasurable.
This resolution is almost perfect, in my opinion. I was very happy with the way he brought everything together, although to tie up all the loose ends in one book things had to move from one to the next very quickly, and it seemed a bit forced, but not a big deal. The main character's relationship with his romantic interest is handled very tastefully and honorably, and I was very happy with the way the author had that turn out.

I made it to the "end" of the Lost Fleet series!
This book covers the conclusion of the Syndic/Alliance war and, of course, the beginning of the Enigmatic War. The story here, particularly the first half, shows the flashes of brilliance that kept me coming back over the course of six books. There are some great moments as the fleet returns to grapple with the Syndics and a plot twist that I genuinely didn't see coming, but once that little story arc comes to a close it kind of feels like the rest of the book was dedicated to wrapping everything up in a neat parcel despite that fact that it lays the groundwork for [b:Dreadnaught|9676849|Dreadnaught (The Lost Fleet Beyond the Frontier, #1)|Jack Campbell|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1404421694s/9676849.jpg|14564728] and the rest of the Beyond the Frontier series.
I think that Mr Campbell's best work with regard to this series' characters is in this book. The Rione/Desjani adolescent sniping goes away and both characters manage to do some reasonably interesting evolving (although the love story really takes a hard turn into some rather trite dialogue - at least we don't have to deal with any more explanations regarding the impossibility of Geary and Desjani talk lest their respective honours be forever tarnished).
Overall, Victorious was OK. Not a glowing endorsement exactly but there you go. I'll not be carrying on with the next two series because, honestly, I just don't care about the characters at all. The Lost Fleet story was just "OK", it wasn't compelling. I think it could have been in two or three books rather than the six it ended up in.

Jack Campbell delivers on this final book of the first part of the story of Captain Geary and his lost fleet. Space battles, hatred, Syndics, honour, betrayal, duty, aliens, politics, and finally love. The series covers a lot.
A great ending. Yes, sometimes a nice bowtie and a little good news also goes a long way. The story continues and I expect most of the cast will return when humanity learns more about whats outside human space.

A disappointing conclusion to the series. It felt like there was too much squeezed in to end it. I was maybe just hoping for more. Overall I like the series but David Weber does it better.
This was my review for Kaiwaka Library...
The Alliance fleet has made it home, and in friendly territory for the first time in a long time - for Captain John Geary it has been over one hundred years. But how friendly is it really, when there are people who expect "Black Jack" Geary to stage a coup and take over the ruling council? And what about the threats remaining of the Syndics and the unseen aliens who have dogged them all the way home?
This is the sixth book in the Lost Fleet series. Do read them in order, as the story and characters develop across the books. It has been a gripping tale, and I'm a little sad that it has come to an end with this book. But don't despair - there's another four books following these, in the series "The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier" which I'm going to consider getting onto our shelves as I know I'm not the only person who has read and enjoyed these books recently.
