The crises felt somewhat low-stakes from an adult perspective, but completely life or death to a kid so I can see it being very relatable for the kid who wants to read about everyday life. Fast engaging read; enjoyed it overall.

Amaya and I read this one together. It was cute enough. Lots of good talking opportunities about friendship, responsibility and family finances.

A Soft Place to Land is a sweet, heartfelt story about finding friendship and community and handling financial difficulties as a family. Kids who enjoy books about friendship groups, starting a business, and navigating relationships with younger siblings will enjoy this one.

Many thanks to the publisher for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Simple and sweet, but a little too simple and sweet. Could have used some more depth.

A nice book focused on parental troubles, financial troubles, being a big sister during hard times, and lots of other things middle schoolers may face! Very realistic characters, as well. My biggest wish though was that the conversation between Joy and her parents about the effect they had on her and her sister was just a bit more thorough. It was thankfully not a miracle conversation, but it kind of felt like it!
