2/2.25?- town frames a guy for murder bc they think they’re entitled to apples
writing is okay tbh, i’ve seen worse but it is trying so hard to come off as atmospheric and tense that it turns towards the slowest thing ever. i think every character has their perspective told at some point but they all have the exact same personality so there truly was no point to that.
“full of magic” but there is none aside from generally feeling like a small town gimmick and one “detailed” spell that feels like an easy out to a major plot point
also the most anticlimactic ending i think i’ve ever seen

This one landed right in the middle for me. I really liked the overall concept, and the plot twist definitely caught my attention. The story felt a little longer than it needed to be, and the pacing dragged in some spots. I also didn’t love the ending. It felt pretty anticlimactic after everything that built up.
One review I saw described it as “a lot of drama over some apples,” and honestly, that made me laugh because it’s kind of true. Not a bad read, just not a favorite for me.

This book is the worst!!! Because I could not stop reading it!! I tried to tell myself to stop and get back to my regular life. My book-obsessed brain was not hearing it. I finished in two days.
Now the review: I never would have chosen to read a book with a title like this. I try to stay away from dark magic and spells. However, I have read every other book by Young and I had to give it a chance. I am so glad I did. I adore her writing style.
This book is a steaming cup of tea and a warm blanket while it is raining outside. The characters are so real and raw right from the beginning. The smell and feel of the air and sea are palpable. The magic is a part of the book, yes, but it is handled in a way that dark magic is definitely depicted as evil and although it is an important part of the plot, it is not in the majority of the book. It is mostly learning about the island, the characters and what happened the night the orchard burned. Great, great, great book. Loved it.

4.5!!!! I loooved this. It was so different than anything I’d read before. It was a murder mystery with magic and romance that still felt so grounded in realism. I love Young’s writing and will definitely be reading her stuff as it comes out in the future. I liked this even better than June Farrow! Loved.
