Wow. I just looked at my review for the first book in this series and it is well, not that informative. I have to be nice to myself, you know?
Anyway, Ana Parker is half-witch and half-vampire. Not only are the witches and vampires warring against each other, but Ana has to battle the two sides of her heritage. Additionally, both sides do not completely trust her, so there are a lot of things Ana has to discover herself.

Readers learned in Almost to Die For that the vampires used to be slaves to the witches and now in Almost Final Curtain, the talisman that enslaved the vampires has turned up. This causes strife between her and her sort-of-boyfriend, Nikolai, who is a True Witch and a vampire hunter. They decide to take a break and the tension between them grows while Ana becomes closer to Elias, the courtly vampire who was one of her father’s soldiers.

I really wish I had written more about the first book. I think that would have helped me gather my thoughts here. Anyway, I feel like this series so far is more character-driven than plot-driven. I usually do not have a preference either way, but so far, I just feel like the story line is secondary and lacking. The characters are great though.

Ana is dealing with both her witch and vampire sides and she feels like she has to keep choosing one or the other in certain company. By the end of the book, she seems to start to realize that she should just be herself - her whole self - rather than pick and choose who she is around certain people.

Nikolai is…really annoying. He had some sweet moments in Almost to Die For, but in here he blindly follows his instinctual hatred for the vampires, instead of being sensitive to who Ana is and realizing that people are people, no matter what they are. I was glad that he and Ana drifted apart in this book.
