Avery Davis was a strong heroine who took care of her family after the loss of her mother. Emmett was the love of her life but due to lies and manipulative people kept them apart. Ruthless King brings us their story, we go through the ups and downs as they try to work on their relationship. I really felt for Emmett, his parents weren't shit. I loved this series and would most def. recommend.

i’m kinda sad cause i was the most excited for this one but it was just kinda unnecessarily long and drawn out. i also want more from their friendships like there’s so much potential and it just doesn’t live up.
as i read: this is already my favorite book and like emmett with the box and looking at it all the time ahhhh. i hope we find out why avery did what she did earlier than like half way. i wish we got more of them in high school. i want more scenes of them together in high school. i want imogen to be with someone since she lost preston. like colm maybe… i wish there were flashbacks so we could see them together instead of them not even looking or talking to each other. okay i like that at least they’re finally talking but like i just want to know what actually happened. like they keep referencing their time together on high school and i want to see more of that. i will forever hate the parents not thinking someone’s hood enough trope. also his parents fucking suck. i’m excited for ford and olive! her still not telling him is so frustrating cause there’s no reason like she’s trying to protect his relationship with his parents that he barely cares about. awwww preston and imogen were engaged ahh i want imogen and films story cause i’m so curious. she should’ve just fkn told him and like explain yourself his parents obviously suck so like fuck them. also her finally telling him and him being an ass was so unrealistic. this book just could’ve been so much shorter like i liked their relationship more than the others but there were so many unnecessary fights. i’m excited for ford and olivia though.

So dang good

Completely devoured this book today! I’ve been waiting for Avery and Emmet’s story ever since Shameless King. It did NOT disappoint. Loving the Kings of Rittenhouse series.

I’m a sucker for second chance romance and this one delivered, I been waiting for Emmett and Avery story since book one and I was not disappointed. You can feel how much these two love each other. Avery is so selfless and the sweetest person ever, Emmett is also a sweetheart even though he acts like an asshole to hide it. I was frustrated but happy at the same time, and I just loved the book so much.

description

Ruthless king is the first book I read by Maya Hughes. Second-chance romances are one of my favorite book tropes, so I was excited about this story. It started really good, and I couldn't wait to see what happened that broke these two apart in high school. When I finally got bits an pieces of the past, it kind of lessened my enjoyment for this story. One thing I hate in second-chance romances is when the couple breaks up because of a misunderstanding and that neither of the characters do enough to explain the situation. It is just the easiest way to break up a couple in books, and I am kind of tired of it. Because of this I just couldn't enjoy the book as much as I wanted to. I know they were teenagers, and that they make rash decisions, but if you love someone you would want to try to figure out what happened or explain what happened.

"It hurt to look at her, but I couldn't avert my eyes, like staring into the sun during an eclipse-you knew you were doing damage, but how could you look away from something so rare and spectacular."

I blame Avery more than I do Emmett, she could've told him what was happening. Also I found some inconsistencies in the story, which resulted in me getting confused who was to blame for the whole situation. Avery in the beginning is mad at Emmett, because he didn't believe her and probably never loved her. Then she is admitting that she didn't want to hurt him so she kept a lot of things to herself. I admit Emmett could've done more to try to figure out what was going on, but Avery dropped the ball as well. This made it harder for me to connect to the characters. I think if I read the previous two books, I would've had a better connection with them. At 60% I was considering DNF'ing this book, but decided to put it down and try again later. Which I am happy I did, because after that I got more into the story. The writing was good, it had a nice pacing, but the story for the majority took place in one location, which I didn't like. Also I didn't think there was enough character development, I wanted more from them as a couple. I loved the side characters, and I am especially intrigued by Olivia and Ford.
