although my focus drifted off during certain parts, all in all this was a wonderful read. educative, and with beautiful language. certain parts freaked me out because they were so relatable, and i did not necessarily want to relate to them. but alas. not a big fan of non-fiction, but this was very nice.

The chapters are each mini-stories that start with the wonderful experience of being in a new relationship. Later chapters bring up experiences that in hindsight were red flags her partner signaled. The end of the book talks about the horrors she experienced and how she excused or ignored her partner's behaviour. The book also discussed the love bombing her partner did after an abusive episode. Beyond the story of her relationship she covers the bigger societal issues of domestic violence and how many laws and supports for domestic violence are written with gendered language making it impossible for same sex partners to have the same protections that hetero partners have.

One of the best books ever truly. And one of the best works of nonfiction to ease yourself into nonfiction if you don't read all that much of it.
