A Spoonful of Frogs is labeled as a Halloween book, but it never mentions Halloween.
The reader is watching the production of Bewitching Kitchen and learning about Frog Soup. The frogs are not cooperative which leads to some chasing and hijinks and finally an ingredient swap. This would be a fun book for storytime or a storytime with a cooking activity.

This was fun to read at storytime. Enjoy with lots of pauses and giggles.

2023 storytime theme: Soup

Reviewed from a libray copy.

I am reading through the nominees for the 2024 Beehive Awards and this one is up for best picture book. It was fun to read aloud and my 6 year old laughed so much. It made it all the more enjoyable. I will be adding this to my Halloween books.

A witch filming her TV cooking show wants to make frog soup-but has trouble getting the frogs to stay on her spoon! This book is funny and lively, and good for read-alouds. A lot of the action is portrayed in illustrations, giving the reader and their little one a chance to infer and discuss what it happening. And somehow the book has the reader rooting for both the witch and the frogs-and comes to a satisfying conclusion regarding both.

Amusing story in which a witch with a TV cooking show has a little trouble with one ingredient in her soup recipe.

A funny story of a witch who is trying to teach her viewers (us) how to make her favorite, Frog Soup. While she is going over the ingredients, the main ingredient (frogs of course) gives her such a hard time that she ends up having to use a substitute. Her facial expressions were pretty hilarious and you can feel the frustration/embarrassment seething out of her as she is trying to collect her precious ingredient. Will definitely have to add to our library collection!
