A sweet, friends to lovers, toaster oven romance. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
Rachael Sommers consistently delivers stories I want to read over and over again.

automatic 5 stars for counteracting Evelyn Hugo and restoring my faith in humanity and wlw stories.
Review breakdown:
Writing: I had trouble tracking scene and pov changes with the audiobook: otherwise, writing was fine
Characters: both ladies were cute and I was rooting for them.
Plot: a dog and a kid partner to get their moms together. the fake dating thing threw me off a bit, but it was a low stakes story with no silly breakups.
What would make this an extra star read for me: i don't love plots with kids so that's a me thing
Vibes: gentle

I really liked this. The fake dating was used really well. I loved and was amused by how easy it was for one of the characters to come out. One thing the author seemed to have overlooked was that she was so stressed about telling her son she was dating Riley, but she and Riley were presenting as a couple at Tyler’s birthday? The child dialogue in this was much better than in the last book I read by this author where it was impossible to tell what age the kid was meant to be. Here it is consistent, and he has a very well defined character as well. The one blip is in the conversation where they tell him they’re dating, where he suddenly sounds like a teenager.
3.5 stars. I loved the slow burn but why was the confession so anticlimactic. It felt so blah. It was sweet and an easy read and they characters were very likeable

A Lovely Slow Burn Romance!
Riley falling for the “straight girl”, Kim, and Kim slowly realizing that Riley was who she wanted, needed, and been looking for her entire life was a beautiful, gentle story to read. And Tyler? Kim’s son? Let’s just say the boy is perceptive and leave it at that. Saying anymore would be spoilers.
This is a gentle, almost zero angst love story, a journey of self discovery, and a coming out story all rolled into one. I recommend it!

I stayed up waaaaaay too late on a work night to finish this. Worth. It.
Quick Thoughts:
- Single Mom AND Fake Dating? Talk about a double dose of Kryptonite
- The interactions between Riley, Kim, and Tyler were so cute.
- Speaking of interactions, I also liked the friendship between Kim’s Ex and his fiancée. It reminds me of my mom and her first husband’s friendship
- Okay, I really liked all the side characters
- This book walks that fine line between moving the timeline forward by skipping some scenes and including them
- There was a bit at the end when they’re telling Tyler about them that his dialogue feels a bit old for him
- I liked how Riley and Kim had different likes and strengths but the same core values and sense of fun
- Consent is sexy
Overall I had high expectations for this book and it delivered. Rachael Sommers is quickly becoming an auto-buy for me. This is the third book I have read of hers and I loved all three.

Loved this sweet story. Nice change of pace to not have a third act break up and such little drama. It's a slow burn and not much spice but it didn't need it. So glad to have a kid in a romance book that actually seems like the age they are supposed to be, which is rare.
