I have read most of Kerouac's mid period work, and wanted to try the rest of his series, so I started chronologically and not with the first written. This book, about his older brother's death at a young age (in 1926), was written in the late 50s. The style is dreamlike, hence the vision part of the title. I liked the book, but found it hard to read. The style is so disjointed, but the language is beautiful and the memories are real and rewarding. It felt like you were reading the transcript for a therapy session.

I guess I really don't like the style of Kerouac, and I cant say I disagree with what Capote said about him. Only got 30 pages in and couldnt continue.

A unique biography of a brother. Kerouac's heartbreak at losing an influential older brother really seeps through.
