I'm speechless. I couldn't let go of this book! Just, every word, every sentance was perfect. When reading, like I was one with Nathan. I felt what he felt, thought what he thought... I loved every single thing about him.

I hated Jessica, Tieran, and even Annalyse...
Some characters were in other hand so lovable... Gabriel, Arran, Marcus, and even (which surprised even me for loving him) Clay. I don't know why I actually loved Clay and Marcus, since we all can tell they both are idiots, maybe because they are so powerfull and uh... sexy. Lol.

And one more thing, I promise...
I ship Gabriel and Nathan. I hope they end up together.

Rereading and this was basically torture porn

Good!

I liked It a lot!! ... The story is really good, it got me very quick. I was already hating everybody because of how mean they are, and I was loving Nathan for holding up so good.
The whole story got me very intrigued.

Sally's writing style is really good, the parts where she is telling you the story like if you were right there feeling It too, was confusing but great at same time.

Although...
I felt like it was going too fast, like jumping from one time to another just to save details.
And the characters need a little more description, more background in order to get to understand them better. But is only the first book in the story so it's ok.

Love the cover!

...have to get the next book!

I really liked the covers of this series so thought to try it out. And...it was okay. It seemed like it took a long time for anything to happen to Nathan and of course this is a series so there isn't much resolution in the first book. But I'm not interested enough to read the rest.

Summary: In modern-day England, where witches live alongside humans, Nathan, son of a White witch and the most powerful Black witch, must escape captivity before his seventeenth birthday and receive the gifts that will determine his future.

Love.

there were things about this book that were good, unique. but there were also many mediocre things about it. not sure why i never loved it, but i didn't. i didn't hate it either, though, so that's something. there was no staggeringly good prose. there was no horrendously stilted dialogue. there were no superbly developed and relatable characters. there were no comically-broad characterizations of characters. it was just solidly average, i guess.

I mean, 2.5 stars? This is an interesting idea, but there was just SO MUCH that wasn't explored and it felt a little paint by numbers in some ways. First of all, save me from second person present tense prologues. Secondly, save me from bland romantic interests. I don't know if you guys have noticed this pattern, but most of the time when its a guy narrator, the girl is ethereal and perfect, and well, useless. And I think that goes back to the fact that women tend to be seen as more rewards than characters, and even though this is a female author, this definitely felt like the romantic interest was the bland reward held out of reach, which just no thank you.
More than that, if you're going to set up Half Black/Half White in an obvious metaphor for race/persecution of race, like do something with it. Don't just make the Half Black witches pretty evil and have your Half Black Half White protagonist be unable to read. It felt like she wanted to make more commentary, and then settled into BLACK WITCHES ARE MOSTLY EVIL BUT WAIT, but never followed through, and if you're going to set up that parallel, leaving it there is a pretty shitty thing to do.
I dunno, man, maybe it was just my reading of it, but I'm also super tired of witches/etc being the "other" without it really being explored. And to be fair, the pacing was a little off for me. I found myself skimming a bit, just because I was like HOW LONG IS THIS GOING TO TAKE. Oh, and the ending. Please finish your stories in some ways before just setting up a sequel. I dunno. Just not for me, I guess.

The world it's set into is slightly like Beautiful Creature's world with all the magic, but with its own twists and turns.
Overall, enjoyed it quite much!

This book got better and better and better the more I read. Absolutely loved it! It was action and mystery and suspense but completely character-centric. The story kept unraveling until the very last page. Can't wait for the next one. More detailed review to come (possibly).
