About five years ago, Victor and Nicole had a fling. They met at a bar. Had sex at the bar and then proceeded to keep having sex...at his office where he found out that Nicole's father was his new boss. And that was the end of things. Surprisingly heartbroken after their break up, Nicole went to work, met someone else and got married soon after. The two of them haven't seen much of each other since, but now Nicole is getting divorced and Victor is her lawyer.
These two made me CRAZY! But in the best way possible. From the moment they see each other again it is very clear that they are both still harboring feelings for the other person. It's just not clear how deep those feelings run. Their meetings as lawyer/client are thick with sexual tension, but they are determined to not let their personal feelings get in the way.
I loved that Nicole was kind of the aggressor in their relationship. She was constantly trying to get Victor to let down his guard and give in to the feelings he had for her. She was also going through a crappy divorce with a guy that was just the absolutely worst at times and she found herself constantly in the media. Then she was dealing with her feelings for Victor, which she thought were never going to come to surface again. I know I kept waiting for her to have a breakdown that I probably would've probably had on day 1. But not Nicole. And I LOVED her for that. She was so kick ass.
VICTOR. This. Fucking. Guy. Gah!! I loved him so much. He took Nicole's case knowing that it wasn't going to be easy, but he he also knew that his chance at partnership was on the line. And that's why he was adamant that he and Nicole keep things completely professional. But what it comes down to is that he loved Nichole and can't help but give in. And although he was this super serious and very professional lawyer guy, deep down he was a funny, sweet, loving and a dirty talking Alpha. **swoon** I love that combo!
And as a couple, Victor and Nicole were fun to read. They have this level of comfort with each other that is still there, even after 5 years. As her lawyer, Victor had nothing but Nicole's best interest at heart and I like that things went relatively (not completely) smoothly. Because let's be honest, that could have gone gone south at any moment and been a lot worse than it was. I like that Claire made a point of telling the readers that she didn't consider this to be second chance romance. Sure, Victor and Nicole were together in the past, but it was more of a friends with benefits arrangement. And it didn't last that long. But they are both older and A LOT wiser and can see that what they have is much more than just a quick romp in a club bathroom or Victor's office. I kind of look at their first "relationship" as one that didn't really stand a chance, so this is really their first go at things.
This book is a must read. If you haven't read the rest of the series, go back and read the other two and then read this one. Trust me...it's totally worth it! We get to see the rest of the gang and I really loved the scenes when everyone was all together. It gave the book some light moments that played so well against the rest of the book.

3.5 stars!
I became a huge fan of Claire Contreras and this series when I read Kaleidoscope Hearts last year. By the time Paper Hearts was released, I may have graduated to stalker status. So when I heard that she's going to write a book on Victor, I was over the moon.
Elastic Hearts is the third installment of the Hearts series, and I have to say that the tone of this book is more lighthearted compared to the angst fest Claire served up in the previous two installments. This tripped me up a bit. While I did enjoy Elastic Hearts, I didn't fully get invested in Victor and Nicole's story until the second half.
Victor was an up and coming lawyer when he and Nicole met and had a brief fling together. Unfortunately, Nicole also happens to be the boss' daughter which spelled the end of their "relationship." Fast forward to years later, Nicole is about to get divorced and Victor is about to be made partner but not before being assigned as Nicole's divorce attorney.
The story gives us a brief glimpse of the past, about why nothing came about the hot fling they had. It also gave readers a lot of information about the Nicole's life after she married a Hollywood actor and their eventual divorce. I liked Nicole. She's definitely someone who owns her sexuality and isn't afraid to show it or use it to her advantage. There are moments though where I got a bit fed up with her indecisiveness. However, I did appreciate how she owned up to her faults more readily than Victor. I always felt that one of Ms. Contreras' strength as a writer is writing complicated and flawed heroines who may exasperate you but can't help rooting for. This is exactly how I felt about Nicole.
So why only 3.5 stars? Like I said, it took me a while to connect with Victor and Nicole's romance. Because Nicole's divorce was so complicated, it took a while for that area in her life to settle down, which I felt limited the romance between her and Victor. I didn't like how that conflict dragged for a bit. But I did love it when things finally moved forward for Nicole and Victor.
So while I did enjoy Elastic Hearts, this is by far my least favorite in the series. I think my expectations may have something to do with that because I loved Paper Hearts so much that it's natural that I would make comparisons to it. It didn't quite give me the emotional punch I was expecting, but nevertheless, I still liked this one.
