 Explores the life of someone w/clairgustance as he deals with guilt, death, love, ghosts and a culinary career. Fascinating premise, but I didn't like or root for any of the characters, and frankly didn't find a satisfying end to the meal. So to speak.

This book is a heartfelt blend of magical realism, lingering ghosts (both literal and emotional), and the mystical way food ties us to people and memories. It took me a little while to fully sink into the story, and though I’m not sure it quite lives up to the “best book of the year” frenzy surrounding it (I’ll admit this is a bit outside of my standard genre, so I could be wrong about that), I do get why so many readers fell in love with it. There’s a warmth and richness that lingers. If you love stories where meals carry more than just flavour or tied a recipe to a person, a place, or a moment you can’t let go of, it’s worth the read.
