I struggled to connect with the story for much of the first half, but the last third or so redeemed the rest of it for me. The author's style is very sparing with details, which left me wanting to spend a lot more time with these characters once I finally felt like I understood them.

Parts of this book were beautiful and thought-provoking, but overall it was so miserable the whole way through that I couldn't really enjoy it.
