Book Club Book: Intriguing money scandal story (set in Nantucket), which made me want to keep reading. But, there were things I liked and didn't like.

Things I liked:

-Connie's cooking skills. I seriously wish she was my best friend & personal chef! Ha!
-The relationship Connie and Meredith had. Reminds me of my childhood best friend. No matter what happens in our lives, we're still connected at the heart.
-Dan's constant schmoozing. I want my husband to schmooze me like Dan!

Things I didn't like:
-How the only way Meredith and Connie felt completely happy was if they were making their man happy. Definitely not strong women!
-The story of Harold (the seal). That was super gross & unnecessary.
-The name Toby.
-The way Meredith constantly droned on about Freddy. That was the most boring part of the book. We get it, you didn't know anything.

Overall, it was a 3 to 3.5. Definitely a good beach read.

Something about Elin Hilderbrand's writing style just sucks me in....stayed up way too late reading this one! Absorbing, even with revisiting the same themes (reconnection of old relationships) and the same place (Nantucket). Great beach read...if you can pull yourself away to reapply sunscreen :)

Another 5 star read from Elin!
I enjoy the descriptive landscapes and shuffling from time periods. The character development was fantastic and Connie was by far the star for me! She turned from kind of being a hermit to falling in love and reconnecting with her family.
There was one part I felt was over the top which was
the murder of Harold! Completely unexpected and I’ve never seen anything like this in any of her other books.

Overall, great summer beach read with a mix of friendship, love, crime and Nantucket backgrounds as always.

This book probably only deserves two stars because it asks us to sympathize with a Bernie Madoff-type without compelling reasons. And, while I'm glad Hilderbrand finally introduced some gay characters, that plotline is not developed. BUT, I still enjoy her writing, and these books are my guilty pleasure in the summer.
