Not as fantastic as the first three, but still pretty great. I can't wait for A Dance With Dragons!

Incredible and in any other series would have been rated higher. Killing off main characters is cool and all, but man did I miss their perspectives and the exploits of the Young Wolf. The lack of Tyrion’s POV and lack of info on what is going on along The Wall suckeeeeed. I know GRRM said in the next book everyone else’s point of view would be covered. That doesn’t mean that this book does not lack for them though.
Also can’t help but not really give a shit about the Greyjoy chapters or what was going on in Dorne

Did somebody say side story? Far and away the weakest in the series (better on reread, apparently) because it is so obviously NOT the main plot, bloated by even more side stories within. Jamie and Cersei's narrative makes up the main plot, which are both great for characterisation, but would have been nice on the side of something meatier. Brienne's story especially suffers in this regard. To not have any kind of main plot appear within this entry makes all the pacing from the previous fall completely flat and stirs resentment, which sucks because nothing here is bad. In fact, everything ranges from good to incredible. It's just not satisfying enough to hold up its own book.
Although the book lacks some pace and action, Martin powerful storytelling makes up for this flaw. I did not rate it 5 stars because of the disappointing ending, uncompleted story lines and the time it took him to finish the next book. I find his decision to split the story based on characters inferior to splitting books based on chronology. He should have had the courage and skills to write one big book (1200 pages) with a handful of characters and story development.
