The plot thickens intriguingly, but there is a whole host of new characters to keep track of, and I´m beginning to find the frequent blasé comments about rape upsetting.

Finally finished this book! Read the first 30% in ebook form, and finished it off via the audiobook while driving. The only reason the audiobook worked was because I was already familiar with most of the characters (otherwise it would have been confusing).
As for the book itself, it was a decent continuation of the series. Its a bit offputting missing out on some of the story (no daenerys?) but I can see why he didn't want to make the book any longer. Some storylines are more interesting than others (yay arya), but overall I really enjoyed this book.

A definitive Hot Girl Summer read. After the master work and multiple crescendoes of Storm of Swords, this book felt like falling action and the consequences for the events of the first 3 books. I couldn’t get enough. The new plot lines introduced add even more depth to one of the riches worlds ever put to paper. And as a craven fool who watched the adaptation first, this was the first entry when the show decided to veer away from George’s story. Turns out GRRM can write better than they can. This book is a masterpiece.

After book three, I seriously thought about not continuing with the series. I'm watching the show anyway, what would it matter? But I decided to forge ahead with it. And several times throughout this book, I wondered why. Why did I give it the go ahead. For sure, there were several interesting developments that I wonder if they will happen in the show, but that's all they were - interesting. Until I got almost to the end. Then it was like, "HOLY SHIT! It's about time!" I'd been waiting and waiting and waiting for one of the characters to board the Karma Train and it has finally happened. FINALLY! Now, of course, I have to continue on with the fifth book because I have to know if that person really gets what's coming to them. The really odd part is, that I actually started feeling a little bad for this particular charter. Well done, George R.R. Martin. Well done.
